The Weirton Park Board has a limited supply of shirts available celebrating the 30th annual Marland Heights 5K Classic.

The shirts can be purchased for $15 at the Weirton Millsop Community Center.

Sizes and numbers are limited and will be sold on a first come first served basis.

WEIRTON — Due to extremely poor air quality in the region resulting from wildfires all events at the Weirton Event Center for tonight, Friday, July 17th have been cancelled.

SMP PREPARES FOR SECOND SESSION OF YOUTH SWIMMING LESSONS

WEIRTON - Starvaggi Memorial Pool will be hosting Youth Swimming Lessons for children 4-12 years old. Children who will be turning 4-years old by the end of June are also eligible to participate.

The lessons will be conducted in five sessions over a two-week period. All sessions will take place from 6:00-7:00pm. A second time slot will be added after the first one is filled.

Session dates are as follows:
- Monday, July 20
- Wednesday, July 22
- Thursday, July 23
- Monday, July 27
- Wednesday, July 29

The registration fee is $65 per child for members of the Weirton Millsop Community Center (WMCC) or Starvaggi Memorial Pool seasonal membership holders. The registration fee for non-members is $75 per child. Discounts are available for families with multiple children participating in this program.

Class size is limited, so don’t miss out! Applications are available at the Weirton Millsop Community Center front desk.

The 30th Annual Marland Heights 5K Classic Run, Fitness walk, and Youth Fun Run will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Marland Heights Park.

The evening will include a 3.1 mile run,
2 mile fitness walk, and a youth fun run for kids 12 and under. The youth fun run will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the main race will follow at 7 p.m. Water will be provided at the start/finish line as well as along the visibly marked race course. Race timing will be provided by GCXC Race Timing out of Columbiana, Ohio.

The evening will conclude with a cookout and awards ceremony. Awards will be handed out in each category.

Pre-Registration cost is $25 for adults, $15 for teenagers, and $3 for the youth fun run and will take place at the Weirton Millsop Community Center until Thursday, August 13th at 12:00 p.m.
The race day registration fee will be $30 for adults and $20 for teenagers.

WEIRTON — The Weirton Millsop Community Center will be offering the Rose Dining Room in the facility as a cooling station throughout the host spell that will grip the city this week.

Those in need of a space where they can cool down from the 100-plus-degree heat index can utilize WMCC during its regular operating hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Visitors must bring their own water and be sure to limit their visits to allow all in need an opportunity to cool down.

COMMUNITY HELPS OUT AT WOODLAND ESTATES PLAYGROUND

WEIRTON — Residents of the Woodland Estates community came out on Saturday to invest in a local park in response to a Volunteer Workday organized by Ward 3 Councilman Jesse Keeder.

About 25 people volunteered around four hours of their Saturday at Woodland Estates Playground engaging in tasks such as leaf and branch removal, play surface enhancement, court cleanup and general cleaning. In all, the volunteers contributed between 75 and 100 man hours of volunteer labor.

Councilman Keeder worked with the Park Board to organize the event and pledged to contribute his $5,000 in civic contributions to continued improvements at the park.

In all, the volunteers were able to complete work that would've taken the small Park Board maintenance about three days to complete.
