Annual City of Weirton Independence Day Parade to be Held on July 4 at 5 p.m.
WEIRTON – The Annual City of Weirton Independence Day Parade will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 5 p.m. on the city's Main Street.
The annual Independence Day Parade has been a staple of community activities since the City of Weirton was incorporated in 1947 and this year will be followed by a festival celebrating America's 250th birthday.
Over the years the parade has featured the Weir High School band and other local marching bands, fire trucks from Weirton and surrounding communities, local and state politicians, floats sponsored by local businesses and civic organizations, active and former military personnel, classic cars and the Weirton Steel 25-year club.
The parade route begins at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Main Street and proceeds south on Main Street (WV Route 2) to the intersection of Marland Heights Road.
Portions of Main Street that serve as the parade route will be closed for the duration of the parade. The Weirton Millsop Community Center will also be closed on July 4th.
Parade lineup begins at 3:45 p.m. at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Main Street. All participants must be checked in by 4:15 a.m. on parade day.
To register your business or organization for the parade, complete the registration form and return to Park Board Program Director Chris Krishak by Wednesday, June 24.
Registration forms are available at the customer service desk at the Weirton Millsop Community Center.
Parade spectators are reminded that no viewing locations can be reserved in advance of the parade and all attendees must stay off the roadway as the parade passes by.
Area residents are reminded that no vehicles may be parked along Main Street after 8 p.m. on Friday, July 3 and all vehicles parked on Main Street after that time will be towed at the owner's expense.
