At 0741 this morning our department responded with Wells Police and Wells EMS to Mile Rd at the intersection of Wells Plaza for a motor vehicle crash, rollover, with entrapment.

Upon arrival of Engine 3 and Engine 7, crews had a two vehicle crash with one vehicle on its side and one patient trapped in that vehicle. A recall was struck for station coverage. Crews stabilized the vehicle and extricated the patient from that vehicle in 13 minutes from the time of arrival on scene. Two patients were transported to local hospitals by Wells EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time of the call, a career member coming off shift was still at the station and responded with the on duty crew due to the initial report of entrapment. The member of the crew was a valuable set of additional hands to conduct the operation of vehicle stabilization and extrication in a timely manner.

While crews were demobilizing at the crash scene, a call came in for a residential carbon monoxide alarm activation. The off duty members who were covering the station on the recall from the motor vehicle crash responded with Truck 6, along with Engine 7 that was able to clear from the motor vehicle crash and respond. Crews investigated and found no presence of carbon monoxide in the residence, and the activation was likely due to detector malfunction.

Great all around teamwork and dedication to our community by our members today. We wish for a speedy recovery for those injured.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and woman who have courageously made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

The members of the Wells Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the brothers and sisters of the Boston Fire Department following the tragic line-of-duty death of Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr., who lost his life while operating at a 3rd alarm fire last evening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Boston Fire Department and their families through this difficult time.

Last night, the Boston Fire Department and our entire fire service family suffered a devastating loss with the passing of Rescue 2 firefighter Bobby Kilduff while battling a fire in Dorchester.

Bobby was more than just a firefighter. He was a Marine Corps veteran, a dedicated union brother, a proud Boston firefighter for 24 years, and a man who spent his life serving others. Born in 1972, Bobby responded to thousands of incidents over his career with Rescue Company 2, one of the busiest companies in the city. He understood the danger of this job and faced it head-on every single tour.

But beyond the helmet and turnout gear, Bobby was a father first. He loved his children more than anything in this world. Whether it was family trips to Disney, time spent together, or simply being there for them, his children were his pride and joy.

Bobby also cared deeply about the union and the brotherhood of the fire service, following in the footsteps of his father, who dedicated his own life to the profession before tragically losing his battle with occupational cancer years ago. We pray Bobby is now reunited with his dad and watching over his children, his family, and all of us still answering the call.

This loss is hitting hard. It reminds every firefighter and every family connected to this profession just how dangerous this job truly is. We all know the risks, but sometimes life changes in an instant and brings that reality crashing back home.

Please keep Bobby’s family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the members of Local 718 and the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, brother.
You served your city with honor and courage.
You will never be forgotten.

At 9:23am on Sunday, May 3, 2026 the Wells Dispatch center received a call from a residence in the Meadowledge Resort on Post Rd reporting an oven fire with smoke in the building. Engine 3, Tank 2, Chief 2, and Wells EMS 1 responded along with the automatic mutual aid of Ogunquit Engine 35, Kennebunk Engine 2, and Kennebunk C1.

Upon arrival of Engine 3, Tank 2, and Ogunquit Engine 35 there was heavy smoke coming from the building with fire showing on the exterior of the 2 bedroom park model home. A working fire was struck, bringing in off duty career members, call company members and the additional mutual aid of Sanford Truck 37, North Berwick Engine 1, Kennebunk Tank 22, and Kennebunk Ambulance 1.

The fire was quickly brought under control by first arriving crews, however the building suffered extensive damage.

The two occupants and one K9 who were in the residence when the fire started had evacuated prior to fire department arrival, were evaluated by Wells EMS, and refused transport to the hospital. The K9 was uninjured. There were no injuries to firefighters.

The fire originated in the area of the power supply to a dual fuel range appliance, which had just been turned on to pre-heat, and the cause of the fire is accidental.

Thank you to our career members, call company members, and mutual aid partners from Ogunquit, Kennebunk, Sanford, and North Berwick for their response and assistance on scene and for station coverage.

*This incident occurred during day 2 of the Maine Coast Marathon, and in the height of the 5k and Full Marathon, which is a great event in our community. The event requires additional Fire and EMS members from our departments and the assistance of our mutual aid partners at Ogunquit Fire Rescue, Kennebunk Fire Rescue, and York Ambulance for EMS coverage. The collaborative efforts of our Wells Public Safety Team in the planning of resources and EMS operations for this event is instrumental in the safe and seamless operation of a serious emergency simultaneously occurring during the race. Thank you to our mutual aid partners for your assistance and coverage at the marathon events, in addition to the building fire.

Today our career and call company members assisted volunteers in the 7th annual beach clean up. Thankfully, because of the work of the volunteers and the assistance of our team, our beach area is 1,100 pounds of trash and debris cleaner than it was yesterday!
Thank you to Wells Public Works for allowing us to utilize dump trucks to bring the trash and debris to the transfer station for the appropriate processing.
Thank you to the members of our team for their assistance, the organization of the event by Wells Police Department, led by emergency dispatcher Saundra Skoczen, and of course all of the volunteers who cleaned up our beaches!

This week we celebrate our Wells Public Safety Dispatchers on National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

These professionals are the first responders who are truly on scene first of every incident, answering the emergency and non-emergency calls for help and assistance. They are the calming voice providing valuable and life saving emergency medical and emergency fire dispatch instructions to callers and gathering information that is critical to the response of their Fire, EMS, and Police co-workers. We are greatly appreciative for the service they provide to Wells and Ogunquit Public Safety and the communities.

Their impact, and our appreciation of their work, is much larger than our delivery today of cake, coffee, and coca! Thank you to our Wells Public Safety Dispatch team for your hard work and dedication to the communities you serve!!
