The Wellton Police Department would like to remind everyone that school is back in session beginning August 3.

Our officers will be actively enforcing school zone speed limits to help keep our students, parents, and staff safe.

Please slow down, eliminate distractions, and watch for children crossing the roadway.

Together, we can make this a safe school year for everyone.

Fourth of July Safety Reminder

As we approach the Independence Day holiday, the Wellton Police Department would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly.

Legal Fireworks
• Sparklers
• Ground-based fireworks

Illegal Fireworks
If it launches into the air or explodes, it is illegal in Arizona. This includes:
• Bottle Rockets
• Roman Candles
• Reloadable Shells
• Other aerial or explosive fireworks.

Please Be Considerate
Loud fireworks can be stressful for your neighbors, pets, and our veterans. A little consideration goes a long way in helping everyone enjoy the holiday.

Celebratory Gunfire is a Felony
Shooting a firearm into the air is illegal and extremely dangerous. Bullets fired into the air must come down and can cause serious injury or death. Under Arizona law, celebratory gunfire is a felony, and violators will be held accountable.

Increased Holiday Enforcement
The Wellton Police Department will have additional officers on patrol throughout the holiday weekend and will be actively enforcing Arizona's fireworks and DUI laws. Our goal is to keep our community safe while everyone enjoys the festivities.

We appreciate your cooperation and wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and responsible Independence Day celebration.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Traveling to Mexico? Know the Law Before You Cross the Border

If you are planning to travel into Mexico, it is your responsibility to understand and follow Mexican fi****ms laws.

Do not bring fi****ms, ammunition, magazines, or firearm accessories into Mexico. Items that may be commonly possessed legally in the United States can result in serious criminal charges in Mexico.

Travelers have been arrested for possessing:

Fi****ms
Ammunition of any quantity
Loaded or empty magazines
Firearm parts and accessories
Other weapons-related items
Claiming that you forgot the items were in your vehicle, luggage, backpack, or personal belongings is not a defense.

Violations can lead to:

Immediate detention
Arrest and criminal prosecution
Seizure of fi****ms and property
Significant fines
Imprisonment in Mexico
Before crossing the border, thoroughly inspect your vehicle, luggage, bags, and personal items to ensure no fi****ms, ammunition, magazines, or firearm-related accessories are present.

The safest approach is simple: If you are traveling to Mexico, leave all fi****ms, ammunition, magazines, and firearm accessories at home

Think Before You Cross. Check Your Vehicle. Know the Law. Avoid Arrest

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Regional Center for Border Health for their generous donation to help purchase a new ID card maker for Wellton Public Safety and Wellton Elementary School.

This equipment will allow the school to issue official staff identification cards in-house, helping increase campus safety, accountability, and professionalism. Wellton Police and Fire personnel will also be able to produce department IDs internally rather than contracting the service out.

Partnerships like this make a direct impact on our community, and we truly appreciate the continued support of public safety and education in Wellton. Thank you for investing in our community!

RCBH President & CEO Ms. Amanda Aguirre recently presented Wellton Police Department Chief David Rodriguez with a check to purchase a new ID Maker that will benefit the Wellton Police Department, Wellton Elementary School, and the Wellton Fire Department.

At RCBH, we’re proud to support the people who keep our community safe, educated, and connected. 💙

Supporting law enforcement, public safety, and our educators means investing directly in the future of Wellton — and we’re honored to be part of it!
