Yesterday morning members from DCFD went to South Kingstown to use UFD’s burn building. Members worked on many different skills while working under live fire conditions.

Thursday afternoon just before 4 pm DCFD was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire with extension to the brush at Burlingame Campground. Units arrived on scene and found a well involved ride on leaf blower that was extending to the brush around it. The first due engine quickly extinguished the fire and remained on scene to wet down surrounding areas as a precaution.

This afternoon DCFD, charlestownrescue and other mutual aid companies responded in the area of the Quonnie Breachway for reports of an overturned kayak. During operations eyewitnesses reported a Good Samaritan removed the party from the water. DCFD Marine 1 continued to check the area and recovered the kayak

Last week, Dunn’s Corners Fire Department along with North Kingstown Fire Department were invited to the Rhode Island National Guard’s 4th Annual STEAM Exploration Day. The event attracted more than 500 local high school students to Quonset Air National Guard Base, where they explored education and career pathways in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

Firefighters were dispatched to Klondike Road for a report of a brush fire. Firefighters arrived quickly on scene confirming a fast moving grass fire with some brush involvement. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly before extensively wetting down the area and placing the fire out.
As a reminder, this time of year it is very dangerous to burn. With low humidity and the wind, it can quickly make a small fire move faster than expected and rapidly get out of control.
