So happy to celebrate the James Merrill House receiving a $10,000 grant from Preservation Connecticut! This funding will help support roof replacement work and preserve this National Historic Landmark and special piece of Stonington’s history.

It was great to join them for the check presentation and celebrate the good news. Congratulations to everyone at the James Merrill House Foundation!

Today the world lost a true superstar, but more importantly, we lost an amazing woman with an extraordinary heart. 💔

Dolly Parton was a once-in-a-lifetime talent who gave us countless unforgettable songs, her beautiful voice, her humor, her kindness, and a lifetime of generosity. Through her many philanthropic efforts, including her beloved Imagination Library, she helped put free books into the hands of millions of children and gave so much hope to so many.

Dolly has always held a special place in our family. My granddaughter Stevie was born in Nashville, and has always loved her.

The world has lost an amazing woman today. Rest peacefully, sweet Dolly. You will be remembered and truly missed. 🎶

This morning in Preston, we gathered at Poquetanuck Cemetery to honor nine Patriots who served in the cause of American independence. 🇺🇸

It was especially meaningful to join the Connecticut Society Sons of the American Revolution and the Poquetanuck Cemetery Association as these Patriots received the recognition they deserve more than two centuries later.

As a descendant of Roger Sherman, I’m always reminded that the freedoms we enjoy today were built through the courage and sacrifice of those who came before us. I’m grateful for the work being done to preserve their stories and ensure their service is never forgotten. 🇺🇸

Mystic Drawbridge- Change to scheduled openings

Good afternoon,
Please be advised that due to ongoing mechanical issues with the Mystic Drawbridge there will be a temporary deviation to the regularly scheduled openings. This change is needed so that emergency electrical repairs can take place. The bridge will only open for marine traffic at the following times each day: 7:40 AM, 11:40AM, 2:40PM and 6:40PM. It is anticipated that this change will remain in place until September 4th. Vessels able to transit under the bridge in the closed position may continue to do so. Mariners are advised to exercise caution when transiting the area.
Thank you!

🎉 Happy 25th Anniversary to Academy Point at Mystic!

I was so glad to join residents, staff, families, and friends to mark this special milestone and celebrate the wonderful community that has been built here over the past quarter century.

Thank you to the dedicated team at Academy Point for the care, kindness, and sense of home you provide each day, and to the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce for helping celebrate this exciting occasion.

Congratulations, Academy Point, on 25 wonderful years! 💐🥂

Even a 17th-century ship can get stuck in Mystic traffic! 😂⛵️

We happened to spot the Kalmar Nyckel, Delaware’s tall ship, waiting on the other side of the Mystic drawbridge for its chance to make its way back toward the Mystic Seaport Museum.

Definitely one of the cooler things you can stumble across in Mystic!

🚨 UPDATE: I’ve been in touch with the Connecticut Department of Transportation regarding the Mystic River Bascule Bridge. The bridge has experienced a mechanical issue and is currently locked in the closed position.

Specialty crews have been working with DOT since last night to address the issue, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. The U.S. Coast Guard, local marine trades, and local officials have also been notified of the situation.

Tax-Free Week is here! 🛍️

Now through August 22, most clothing and footwear under $300 per item is exempt from Connecticut sales tax. A great time to get some back-to-school shopping done and support our local businesses!

Connecticut’s Tax-Free Week starts tomorrow!

From August 16–22, shoppers can purchase most clothing and footwear priced under $300 per item without paying Connecticut sales tax.

With families across our state continuing to feel the pressure of high costs, Tax-Free Week is a great opportunity to save on back-to-school essentials and other clothing and footwear purchases.

We encourage Connecticut families to take advantage of these savings and support our local businesses while you shop!

📅 August 16–22, 2026
👕 Most clothing and footwear under $300 per item

Today we had the chance to recognize Ryan Aubin and thank him for his years of service to Griswold Park&Rec - Youth&Family Services!

Ryan has made a lasting impact on countless kids and families through his work with the department. We wish him all the best as he begins his next chapter and thank him for everything he has done for the Griswold community.

It was great to join State Representative Brian Lanoue in presenting Ryan with a legislative citation and celebrating him alongside the Parks & Rec community. Congratulations, Ryan!
