Incident Location: Devil’s Den Preserve
Type of Incident: Lost Hiker
Incident #: 26-001053

At 3:42 PM Weston Police and Fire were dispatched to Devil’s Den Preserve for a reported lost hiker within the preserve. Weston Emergency Communications Center was able to determine an approximate area of the lost hiker prior to losing connection with the caller. A unified incident command post was established with Weston Police and a representative from the Nature Conservancy.

Due to the steep terrain where the hiker was reported to have last been firefighters had to hike into the area. The hiker was quickly located and assisted out of the preserve without incident by 4:30 PM. Car 1, Car 2, Car 3, Rescue 5, Truck 6, Truck 8 and UTV-1 filled the assignment. All units were back in service by 4:49 PM.

As daylight hours decrease with the end of daylight saving time this weekend, hikers are encouraged to take additional precautions to keep themselves safe. Check sunset times before heading out and allow sufficient time to complete your hike before dark. Ensure your phone is fully charged, dress for the weather and stay on marked trails. It is also important to inform someone of your planned route and expected return time.

Type of Incident: Motor Vehicle Accident: Car Vs Motorcycle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At 6:09 PM Weston Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to Weston Road in the area of Squires Lane for a reported Motor Vehicle Accident involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival firefighters located a motor vehicle accident with a motorcyclist down on the side of the road. Firefighters immediately rendered aid to both the motorcyclist and driver of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital by Weston EMS with serious but non life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also transported to an area hospital by Weston EMS with non life threatening injuries. Weston Road was closed while crews operated on scene. Car 1, Car 2, Engine 3, Rescue 5, 552, 551 and Medic 500 filled the assignment. All units were back in service by 7:25 PM.

What a great time we had earlier this month at our 13th annual Golf Outing at Aspetuck Valley Country Club. Thank you to all those who attended, volunteered and sponsored this great event to help us raise money to support the Weston Volunteer Fire Department. Last weekend, members of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department participated in a regional tanker shuttle drill hosted by the Norwalk Fire Department. The training brought together multiple departments, including Wilton, Rowayton, Stamford, Darien, and Ridgefield.

Training opportunities like these are especially important for Weston, which does not have a municipal fire hydrant system and relies on alternative water sources to support firefighting operations. Regional drills also help strengthen coordination between departments.

We are pleased to announce the addition of three new active firefighters to our ranks following the successful completion of their year long probationary period. Join us in congratulating Firefighter-EMT Will Jarvis, Firefighter Kevin Doyle and Firefighter Brian Dunlevy. These three have completed over 200 hours of training each including Firefighter I and various departmental trainings ensuring they are ready to effectively and safely serve the Weston community.

This morning 22 Firefighters were at Fairfield Regional Fire School for Live Burn Training. This training enables firefighters to train on fire suppression, search and numerous other skills in a realistic atmosphere. The Weston Fire Department remains committed to training to ensure we are ready to effectively and safely respond to any and all emergencies.

We are proud to welcome our newest active firefighter, Albe Bassett, following the successful completion of his probationary period.

With more than 30 years of experience in the fire service, Albe brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our department. He is also a member of the Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team, making him a significant asset to our department, particularly in the area of hazardous materials response.
