Today we're celebrating beloved children's author and illustrator Aliki Brandenberg, born on September 3, 1929! Better known to young readers simply as Aliki, she has spent decades bringing history, science, nature, and everyday experiences to life through engaging stories and colorful illustrations.

Aliki has written and illustrated more than 50 books for children, including Mummies Made in Egypt, Fossils Tell of Long Ago, A W**d Is a Flower, and My Visit to the Dinosaurs. Her books have inspired generations of young readers to be curious, ask questions, and discover the world around them.

Arnosky is a self-taught artist, naturalist, and author who has written and illustrated more than 100 books about nature and wildlife. His beautiful artwork and engaging books have inspired generations of young readers to explore, appreciate, and learn about the natural world.

Some of his well-loved books include Crinkleroot, I Was Born in a Tree and Raised by Bees, and many wonderful books about animals and the outdoors.đź“–

The White Oak Community Library will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

Labor Day began as a way to recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of American workers. First celebrated in the late 1800s, the holiday reminds us of the hard work that helped build our communities and our country. 🇺🇸👨‍🔧

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable Labor Day!

The library will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, September 8.
