We had a great turnout and perfect weather for today's walking tour through Precious Blood Cemetery! We enjoyed exploring Woonsocket's rich history alongside the Woonsocket Historical Society, and the American-French Genealogical Society. It was incredible learning about the notable figures and everyday people who helped shape our city. Understanding our past helps us appreciate where we are today. Thank you to everyone who shared stories and brought our history to life! This tour was a project of the Woonsocket Harris Public Library and was made possible in part through a grant from the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services using funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Our final week of summer ☀️ comes to a close as students return to school. Here is a look at what happened this week.

Huge thank you to documentary filmmaker and urban explorer David Lawlor for an incredible presentation! His fascinating research, stunning photography, and drone footage of Woonsocket's historic mills drew a packed house. It was amazing to see such a vibrant crowd come together to explore local history through his lens. Thank you to everyone who came out and filled the room, and a massive thanks to David for bringing the stories of these iconic landmarks to life! 🎥✨A big thank you also to Irene Blais, Roger Beaudry, Ray Bacon and other members of the Woonsocket Historical Society and James Toomey from the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council who joined us for this special event.

Precious Blood Cemetery Walking Tour with the Library and the Woonsocket Historical Society on August 30th from 1pm-2:30pm. This was moved to August 30th from the original August 23rd date due to rain that day. Learn about the history of this cemetery and the notable people buried there. No sign-ups needed just meet us at the front gate! Wear comfortable clothes. Park along the side street. Tour will last about 1.5 hours. This walking tour is made possible in part by a grant from the RI Office of Library & Information Services using funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

We're kicking off our return to Saturday and regular Fall library open hours starting Labor Day week with a free concert by the Renaissance V Brass Quintet. These musicians are a local favorite, and everyone is invited to join us in the main program room on Saturday, September 12th from 2-3pm.
