On Monday at 5:30pm, the Museum of Work and Culture will be presenting in the library the compelling story of immigrants who came to find a better life in the mill towns along the Blackstone River. The Museum on the Road program will recreate this journey, beginning in a Quebecois farmhouse before making your way to the workday world of Woonsocket at the turn of the century. The presentation will explore the lives of immigrants at home, work, and school through props, visual images, and collaborative discussion.

Sharing for our friends at Books Are Wings

Summer should be a time of growth, exploration, and joy for all children. Yet for too many young learners, the summer months bring an invisible setback known as "summer slide" – the loss of reading skills and academic progress that occurs when children lack access to books at home.

With your support, Books Are Wings can bridge the widening gap to ensure every child has access to books during the critical summer months. Research shows that students without home libraries can lose more than a month of reading progress over summer break – a loss that compounds year after year.

Between pages, pauses, and perfectly chosen words, the library became a stage for first-time rhymers to lifelong poets who shared pieces that made us laugh, reflect, and occasionally forget to breathe for a moment.
In the midst of applause, proud smiles, certificates, and well-earned prizes, the evening proved that poetry is still very much alive — quietly waiting in notebooks, hearts, and library corners until someone is brave enough to read it aloud.

Join us tomorrow from 2:30 to 4 PM at the library for an adult drop-in craft event. There will be adult coloring pages and colored pencils provided. Feel free to bring your own coloring book and coloring supplies. Also, feel free to bring along a drink. May is Mental Health Awareness month and this will be a great way to socialize and relax.
