OUR VOICES DESERVE TO BE HEARD. OUR COMPLAINTS DESERVE ANSWERS.
For months, we have sought answers through proper channels about discrimination, retaliation, political intimidation, exclusion, and unequal access to recovery and housing resources.
Formal complaints were submitted to the boards of Washington Recovery Alliance and Peers Rising regarding the conduct of their respective executive directors. One was closed without what we consider an independent investigation; the other remains unanswered.
Yesterday’s peaceful picketing at the listening session followed months of failed efforts to secure transparency, accountability, and fair treatment.
Publicly funded organizations must serve recovery communities fairly—without discrimination, favoritism, retaliation, or political interference. Voice and choice cannot be celebrated publicly while being denied in practice.
Housing is a human need—not a political reward or tool for retaliation. Recovery resources must be distributed transparently and equitably, especially for minority-owned organizations and the Latino, Native American, and other communities we serve.
We demand:
• Independent investigations into both complaints;
• Written explanations of how they were handled;
• Transparency in public funding, contracts, housing, and recovery resources;
• Protection from retaliation;
• Fair treatment for all communities and organizations;
• A public timeline for corrective action.
This is bigger than two organizations. It is about whether publicly funded recovery systems respect lived experience, protect access to housing and support, and honor the people they serve.
We are not asking for special treatment. We are demanding fairness, transparency, independent oversight, and accountability.
PUBLIC MONEY DEMANDS PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY!
