Today we honor the memory of country music legend Dolly Parton, who passed away today, August 25, 2026. In celebration of her incredible legacy, we want to highlight her profound impact on literacy through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Launched in 1995, the Imagination Library was created to foster a love of reading among preschool children in Dolly's home county in East Tennessee by giving them a specially selected book each month. Over the past 31 years, this wonderful foundation has expanded globally, inspiring millions of children to read.

Thank you Mildred Whipple Library for hosting this event! Wednesday, August 19, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Mildred Whipple Library in Drain for our End of Summer Reading Program Popcorn Party!🍿🎉
Combined at both libraries, our kids and teens read a total of 1,532 hours throughout the Summer Reading Program! Whipple Library took the lead by 292 hours! 🤩
Congratulations to all of our summer readers on a fantastic job!
The event is free and open to all ages. There will be plenty of popcorn and light snacks to enjoy. Please note that children under 12 must be supervised by an adult or a responsible older sibling.

Huge thanks to Umpqua Valley Beekeepers for buzzing by the library for our end-of-summer reading program! 🐝📚
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Tammy from Yoncalla Deli & Grill for catering the event. Lunch was fantastic.🍇🥖
