SPÖ Women organized a special cinema evening on Monday, 13 April 2026, at Filmcasino in Vienna, bringing together distinguished guests for an important discussion and film screening.

The program began with an engaging discussion featuring H.E. Eva-Maria Holzleitner, Federal Minister for Women, Science and Research, alongside H.E. Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari and director Natalie Halla, moderated by Ruth Manninger.

During the discussion, Ambassador Bakhtari highlighted the ongoing education ban on women & girls in Afghanistan and the increasing restrictions on them, emphasizing their rapidly deteriorating situation and the urgent need for continued international attention and support.

Following the discussion, guests viewed the powerful film “The Last Ambassador”, which sparked thoughtful reflection and meaningful exchange among attendees.

The evening concluded with a warm get-together, providing an opportunity for dialogue, connection, and shared perspectives.

“We strongly condemn such brutality against civilians and religious gatherings, which foster a climate of fear, hatred, and insecurity in the country. Such acts harm internal solidarity and constitute serious violations of international human rights law, including the right to life and freedom of religion or belief, and underscore the urgent need to ensure these rights for all communities.”

با خرسندی، برنامه باشکوه جشن نوروز ۱۴۰۵ را با همکاری مجله سوسایتی و مشارکت سفارت‌های کشورهای حوزه نوروز، به تاریخ ۳۰ مارچ ۲۰۲۶ در شهر ویانا برگزار نمودیم.
در این رویداد فرهنگی، جمعی از سفرا، نمایندگان دیپلماتیک کشورهای مقیم ویانا، شماری از هم‌وطنان گرامی و مهمانانی از کشورهای حوزه نوروز حضور یافته و فضای محفل را با حضور گرم خویش رونق بخشیدند.

نوروز، این میراث ارزشمند نیاکان ما، پیام‌آور نو شدن، همبستگی و امید به آینده‌ای روشن است. این جشن کهن، امسال نیز در فضایی سرشار از صمیمیت و همدلی، با برنامه‌هایی متنوع و جذاب برگزار گردید.

از بخش‌های دیدنی این برنامه می‌توان به اجرای موسیقی سنتی، نمایش جلوه‌هایی از فرهنگ‌های گوناگون، ارائه غذاهای محلی و برپایی نمایشگاه آثار هنری اشاره کرد که بازتابی زیبا از غنای فرهنگی و تاریخی ملت‌های مختلف بود.

این گردهمایی، فرصتی مغتنم برای گسترش روابط فرهنگی، تقویت همگرایی میان ملت‌ها و ایجاد پل‌های دوستی میان فرهنگ‌های مختلف فراهم ساخت و با استقبال گسترده اشتراک‌کنندگان همراه گردید.

به امید جهانی سرشار از صلح، همدیگرپذیری و عدالت، و آینده‌ای روشن برای افغانستان عزیز!

On 26 March, Ambassador Bakhtari addressed a group of Afghan women in Vienna at an event organized by the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF).
In her remarks, Ambassador Bakhtari shared her personal journey and encouraged Afghan women to actively engage in society and make full use of the opportunities provided by the Austrian Government and ÖIF. She emphasized the importance of empowerment, participation, and community involvement.
Ambassador Bakhtari also highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by women and girls in Afghanistan, including the continued restrictions on education and the overall deterioration of their situation. She underscored the importance of international solidarity and support for women of Afghanistan during these difficult times.
We remains committed to supporting Afghan women and promoting their inclusion, resilience, and contributions to society.

با فرارسیدن جشن باستانی نوروز و آغاز سال نو خورشیدی ۱۴۰۵، سفارت و نمایندگی دایمی جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در اتریش، صمیمانه‌ترین تبریکات و بهترین تمنیات خویش را به شما هموطنان عزیز تقدیم می‌نماید.

نوروز، این میراث گران‌سنگ فرهنگی، نماد نو شدن، امید، همدلی و پیوند دوباره انسان با طبیعت است، جشنی که از دل تاریخ برخاسته و بیانگر هویت، فرهنگ و اصالت مردم ما می‌باشد. این آیین کهن، همواره پیام‌آور صلح، دوستی و همبستگی میان ملت‌ها بوده است.

با تأسف، در شرایط کنونی افغانستان، این رسم دیرینه و ارزشمند با محدودیت‌ها و بی‌مهری‌هایی مواجه گردیده است، اما باور داریم که فرهنگ و عنعنات اصیل مردم ما فراتر از هر محدودیت، زنده و پایدار باقی خواهد ماند. ما، به عنوان پاسداران این هویت غنی، نوروز را با افتخار گرامی داشته و آن را به عنوان نماد مقاومت فرهنگی و امید به آینده‌ای روشن تجلیل می‌کنیم.

At the 69th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs CND in Vienna, Manizha Bakhtari, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Afghanistan, delivered remarks highlighting the worsening drug situation in Afghanistan and its broader regional and global implications.

She emphasized the urgent need for stronger international cooperation, noting that despite Taliban claims of banning poppy cultivation, evidence points to inconsistent enforcement and a growing shift toward synthetic drugs, particularly methamphetamine derived from ephedra.

Ambassador Bakhtari also highlighted the human impact of the crisis. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Afghanistan has between 3 and 3.6 million drug users, including up to one million women, many affected by poverty, trauma, and limited access to treatment.

She further raised concerns about the illegal extraction of natural resources in northern and north-eastern Afghanistan and called on the international community to maintain accountability efforts and ensure that assistance reaches the Afghan people directly, particularly women and vulnerable communities.

On 9 March 2026, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Afghanistan in Vienna with the Permanent Mission of Finland to the OSCE co-hosted a Special Meeting of the OSCE Asian Partners for Co-operation Group on the long-term impact of bans on girls’ education on Afghanistan’s security and regional stability.

The meeting featured a keynote address by UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Mr. Richard Bennett, and brought together experts, and human rights advocates to discuss the broader implications of these policies and the importance of supporting initiatives that preserve access to education for Afghan girls and women.

Ambassador Vesa Häkkinen noted that Afghanistan is the only country in the world where women and girls are banned from secondary and higher education.

“Comprehensive security cannot be achieved without the full respect for human rights and the meaningful participation of women in all areas of social life.” said OSCE Secretary General, Mr Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu.

Ambassador Eglantina Gjermeni emphazied that the exclusion of women from education and public life risks entrenching poverty, dependency, and instability, while diminishing opportunities for inclusivity and accountable governance.

Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari stressed that education is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of peace, development, and sustainable security. The continued exclusion of girls of Afghanistan from education not only violates their rights but also undermines social cohesion, economic resilience, and long-term stability.

Ensuring access to education for girls and women of Afghanistan is not only a matter of human rights, but a critical investment in Afghanistan’s future stability, resilience, and development.

In Afghanistan today, women are being pushed out of public life in ways that have no modern precedent. Over the past few years of the Taliban's illegitimate rule, a growing number of decrees and restrictions have stripped women and girls of basic freedoms, the right to study, to work, to move freely, and to participate in society.

On International Women’s Day, Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari highlighted the urgent situation of Afghan women and girls during the Permanent Council meeting of the OSCE on 5 March 2026.
Ambassador Bakhtari mentioned that, this day is a reminder of rights that remain denied, including access to education, work, and full participation in public life. At the same time, the resilience and courage of Afghan women who continue to advocate for their rights were recognized.
We call for continued international attention and solidarity to ensure that the rights and voices of women and girls of Afghanistan are not forgotten.
