The community of Ramotse in Hammanskraal attended the outreach on GBVF despite inclement weather to engage the stakeholders. IPID in partnership with other stakeholders engage the community of Ramotse on GBVF because ending GBVF relies on communities.

IPID in parnership with other stakeholders is hosting a community outreach on Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in Ramotse Village, Hammanskraal. Other stakeholders taking part in the event are Kgweteke Projects, Sekanka Foundation, Universal Association of School Governing Bodies, Pastors United Movement of South Africa (Pumsa) and Mmabolepu Care for the Aged. The purpose of the event is to educate the community on issues of GBVF and how they can report GBVF cases.

IPID has arrested an 18-year-old woman from Kuruman, for opening a false r**e case against an off-duty Kimberley based SAPS Vehicle Investigation Unit Constable.

The woman appeared in the Kuruman Magistrates Court, and was released on warning. The case was remanded to 16 October for her to get the services of legal aid.

The alleged r**e incident took place at a guesthouse in Kuruman on 23 September 2026. The 24-year-old Constable was arrested on 24 September 2026 for a charge of r**e.

Prior the Constable's court appearance, the 18-year-old woman informed the IPID investigator that she had filed a false statement because the Constable failed to pay her the R400 they agreed upon following their consensual s*x.

A case of perjury was opened against the woman for deliberately lying under oath and abusing state resources. The r**e case against the Police Constable was withdrawn in court.

The actions of the 18-year-old woman undermine the integrity of the justice system and divert critical investigative capacity away from genuine cases.

IPID would like to sensitize our communities that false reporting will not be tolerate, and decisive action will be taken against individials who attempt to misuse the justice system for personal gain.

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has welcomed the arrest of a 59-year-old senior police officer holding the rank of Lieutenant General on charges relating to s*xual offences.

The arrest was effected on Monday, 21 September 2026, by members of the Commissions Recommendations Task Team (CRTT).

The senior officer faces charges relating to the alleged s*xual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026, as well as the alleged r**e of an 18-year-old woman. The alleged r**e is reported to have occurred at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026.

The senior officer is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

LIMPOPO SERGEANT SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR SHOOTING EX-GIRLFRIEND SIX TIMES

IPID welcomes the life sentence imposed on a Limpopo Sergeant for the Attempted Murder of his ex-partner, by the Mankweng Regional Court on 17 September 2026.

Sergeant Makgwadi Alfred Malemela (41) shot his former girlfriend, Victoria Ramaphoko (38), six times when she rejected his proposal to reconcile and get back together.

It is alleged that Sergeant Malemela went to Ramaphoko’s work place, the Mankweng Magistrate Court on 27 September 2024, at around 16h30, where he proposed that they get back together. She refused and Malemela took out his service fi***rm and shot at Ramaphoko six times at a close range.

At the time of the shooting incident, Malemela violated an active domestic violence protection order that barred him from contacting Ramaphoko.

The Mankweng Regional Court also sentenced Sergeant Malemela to an additional two-year imprisonment for the contravention of the protection order. Malemela was also declared unfit to possess a fi***rm.

The Johannesburg Rapid Rail Unit Officer, Constable Kabelo Peace Maripane and his brother, Nape Maripane will each spend 7 years in prison for the attempted murder of two civilians in Tembisa in 2019.

The two brothers were sentenced by the Tembisa Regional Court on 16 September 2026.

It is alleged that Constable Nape threatened three friends who were walking along Makulong Section in Tembisa on 14 September 2019, at approximately 02h00 with his service fi***rm. He allegedly fired towards the three friends and left.

Constable Maripane together with his brother, Nape Maripane later returned to the area where the three friends were and opened fire at them. Two of the friends sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies while the third escaped unharmed. The injured were transported to Tembisa Hospital for medical treatment.

The Maripane brothers were found guilty by the court on 25 May 2026. At the time of the incident, Constable Maripane was off duty.

VEREENIGING LT. COLONEL SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR MURDER

The Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge, yesterday on 16 September 2026, sentenced Lieutenant-Colonel Christopher Mokoena, of Vereeniging SAPS to twenty years for the murder of Sibongiseni Cele in 2024.

It is alleged that Lieutenant-Colonel Mokoena assaulted Cele on 3 March 2024, at around 19h00, for breaking into his property and stealing a television set and jewellery.

It is further alleged that after the assault, Mokoena called the police to his house but refused to open a case of trespassing against Cele while Cele also refused to open an assault case against Mokoena.

According to the police, Cele also declined to be taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Cele was found dead the following day, on 4 March 2024, at his home by a friend and the police we summoned to the scene.

Apart from the 20 -year sentence, the High Court also declared Mokoena unfit to possess a fi***rm.

The Brakpan Magistrates Court has today, 15 September 2026, denied bail to all six accused in the alleged murder of Brakpan businessman, Emmanuel Mbense.

Suspended EMPD Deputy Chief, Julius Mkhwanazi, Adrian McKenzie, former EMPD officer Kersha- Leigh Stols, former SAPS officers, Bhekokwakhe Sibande and Juan-Mare Eksteen as well as a private citizen, Cobus Jansen van Rensburg, were arrested on 05 August 2026 for the alleged murder of Emmanuel Mbense.

Mbense was allegedly tortured to death on 14 April 2022, at his Brakpan home and his body dumped at Spaarwater Dam in Duduza, Nigel.

The six accused are facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice.

The court was not convinced that the accused advanced any substantial and compelling circumstances that warranted their release on bail.

The case is postponed to 24 November 2026 for further investigation and the inclusion of the seventh suspect on this matter who is currently out of the country.

EMPD DEPUTY CHIEF GRANTED BAIL IN THE BLUE LIGHTS SAGA

Two of the three accused in the Blue Lights Saga, EMPD Deputy Chief, Julius Mkhwanazi, and Fleet Manager, Chris Steyn, have been granted R10 000 bail each by the Germiston Magistrates Court.

Mkhwanazi’s bail application was concluded earlier today, 14 September 2026, while Steyn was granted bail on 28 August 2026.

The two EMPD officers and a businessman, Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala were arrested on 27 August 2026. Matlala opted not to apply for bail.

The three accused are facing charges of fraud and corruption.

Mkhwanazi will, however, remain in custody pending the outcome of his bail application for his alleged involvement in the murder of Brakpan businessman, Emmanuel Mbense.

Judgment in his bail application in that matter is tomorrow, 15 September 2026, at the Brakpan Magistrates Court.
