AFRICA’S ACCREDITATION COMMUNITY GATHERS IN GABORONE 🇧🇼
The 17th AFRAC General Assembly & Meetings officially opened today at the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel and Convention Centre in Gaborone, Botswana.
The opening brought together government representatives, Accreditation Body leaders, the African Union Commission, international and development partners, AFRAC leadership, Committee Chairpersons, delegates and stakeholders from across the continent.
Among those joining the opening were Botswana’s Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Hon. Letlhogonolo Barongwang; AFRAC Chairperson Celestine Okanya; Dr. Oswald Chinyamakobvu of the African Union Commission; representatives of PTB Germany; and CEOs and Directors of Accreditation Bodies from across Africa.
A common message resonated throughout the opening:
For Africa to trade with confidence, Africa must be able to trust. Accreditation helps build that trust.
As implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area advances, credible Quality Infrastructure will be increasingly important in supporting confidence in goods and services and addressing technical barriers to trade. The AfCFTA itself is intended to create a single market for goods and services and advance industrial development and continental economic integration.
Over the coming days, the AFRAC community will exchange experiences, strengthen cooperation and explore how accreditation can continue supporting Africa’s trade and development ambitions.
The conversations have begun.
