MAYOR NGCONGO JOINS YISE HIGH SCHOOL PRAYER SESSION TO ENCOURAGE LEARNERS

His Worship Cllr. Melikhaya Ngcongo, Mayor of Richmond Municipality, joined learners and educators at Yise High School during a prayer session organised by Pastor S. Phungula, one of the prominent pastors under Operation Sukuma Sakhe in Richmond, aimed at encouraging and uplifting learners ahead of their academic journey.

Addressing learners, the Mayor shared his personal story and encouraged them not to allow difficult family backgrounds or life challenges to determine their future. He reflected on losing his mother while in Grade 10 and studying under difficult conditions without electricity and water, relying on candles to continue with his school work.

The Mayor further encouraged learners to remain disciplined, dedicated and committed to their studies. He urged them to set high goals for themselves, continue pursuing education and not lose hope because of unemployment challenges facing the country.

“I want 100% pass rate from you. Focus on your school work, remain disciplined and continue believing that the sky is the limit,” said Mayor Ngcongo.

RICHMOND MUNICIPALITY HOSTS LOCAL TASK TEAM MEETING TO ADDRESS COMMUNITY SAFETY AND SOCIAL CHALLENGES

Richmond Municipality convened a Local Task Team (LTT) meeting today at 10h00 in the Council Chambers, chaired by His Worship the Mayor, Cllr. Melikhaya Ngcongo.

The meeting served as an important platform for stakeholders to engage and share information relating to the well-being and safety of the citizens of Richmond. Critical social challenges affecting communities were discussed extensively, including teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, child abuse, sexual grooming, alcoholism, neglect, and the growing concern over the safety of children.

The Local Task Team further reflected on the recent school raids conducted under the Supply Reduction Programme, noting the positive impact and encouraging outcomes achieved thus far. It was recommended that these operations continue as part of ongoing efforts to combat the presence and distribution of drugs within schools and communities.

The meeting also emphasised the urgent need to strengthen collaboration with Child Protection Services and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection and support of vulnerable children and families within Richmond.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Ngcongo reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to meaningful intervention and community development, stating:
“Wherever we intervene, our actions must bring meaningful change and make a positive impact in the lives of our people.”
