RAYMOND MHLABA MUNICIPALITY HANDS OVER AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT TO COMMUNITY COOPERATIVES

The Raymond Mhlaba Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to economic development and food security by handing over agricultural production inputs and equipment to two community-based cooperatives in eDikeni — Khanya Nursery Cooperative and Alice Massive Cooperative.
The handover was led by the Hon. Mayor, Cllr Nomhle Sango, who was joined by a formidable delegation of municipal leadership that underscored the weight the municipality places on local economic development. Accompanying the Mayor were the Speaker of Council, Cllr Thozama Ngaye; the Chief Whip, Cllr Nonkazimlo Mlamla; Executive Committee Members — the Portfolio Head for Strategic Planning and Local Economic Development, Cllr Zingisa Rasmeni, and the Portfolio Head for Sports, Arts and Culture, Cllr Portia Sabane; Ward Councillors Cllr Mthetheli Gqokro and Cllr Siphuxolo Nqala; as well as the Municipal Manager, Ms Unathi Malinzi with the Directors.
The handover represents a tangible intervention in support of grassroots agricultural enterprise, providing community cooperatives with the tools and inputs necessary to increase production capacity, enhance livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to the local economy. Both Khanya Nursery Cooperative and Alice Massive Cooperative are positioned to benefit significantly from this support as they work towards building sustainable agricultural operations that serve the broader Raymond Mhlaba community.
This initiative is aligned with the municipality's Local Economic Development mandate and its broader commitment to reducing unemployment and poverty through targeted community empowerment programmes. By investing in cooperatives, the municipality continues to demonstrate that development is not merely a policy priority on paper, it is a lived commitment, delivered at community level.
