On August 9, 1823, Marko Boçari (Markos Botsaris) fell in battle. He was one of the most feared Souliote commanders—Orthodox Albanians who ruled the rugged mountains of Epirus and fought relentlessly for their independence! ⚔️

The Suliote Resistance: Born in 1790 into a prominent Arvanite family, Marko grew up during intense clashes against Ali Pasha of Yanina. The Souliotes were legendary for fiercely preserving their Albanian language, traditions, and unmatched warfare tactics.

The Language Barrier: While his warriors spoke Albanian (Tosk-Arvanite dialect), Greek was the dominant regional language of trade, diplomacy, and regional administration.
