This Reconciliation Week, Dernancourt Kindergarten acknowledges the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to learning, listening and working together towards genuine reconciliation in our community.

Nature is a big part of life at Dernancourt Kindy. Learning in natural environments enhances academic success, inspires creativity and strengthens problem-solving skills. Time outdoors boosts physical health, supports mental wellbeing and fosters social connections and positive lifelong attitudes towards caring for our environment.

After watching the trees being cut down and taken away from the reserve next door, the children began important conversations: “Where will the birds live?” and “When will there be more trees to climb?” These thoughtful questions sparked engagement with the local council, and working with the local high school, the children used the opportunity to share their thoughts- describing, drawing and sharing their ideas for the renewed reserve.

We’re proud to announce that, beginning in the April holidays, landscaping works and replanting will commence on Silverlake Drive. We look forward to watching our children’s ideas - and the new nature space - come to life!

Wearing our favourite footy colours in the last week of term was about more than just dressing up! With footy clinics running all week thanks to , hearing our National Anthem, and learning about the AFL Grand Final being held at the MCG on Wurundjeri Country, grand final fever truly took over.

Most importantly, together we raised over $500 for Childhood Cancer Research. A huge thank you to our families for your support, and to for donating the custom-made cookies for the occasion — including allergy-friendly ones so everyone could enjoy a treat!
