1 June is Smoke Alarm Action Day.

Fire and Rescue NSW, together with fire services across Australia, is urging people to check they have a working smoke alarm.

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm. A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

Join your local firefighters at Batemans Bay Fire Station for the Fire & Rescue NSW Annual Open Day on Saturday, 9th May!

📍 1 Heradale Parade, Batemans Bay
🕙 10am – 2pm

Bring the family along for a great day out! Kids can get up close with real fire trucks and equipment, and even meet their local firefighters 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

We’ll also be sharing important safety tips, including:
🔥 Installing and maintaining smoke alarms
🔋 Changing smoke alarm batteries
🏠 Creating a home fire escape plan

➡️ Fire permits required ALL YEAR ROUND

🌳 RFS (Most surrounding areas)
➡️ Fire permits required during the Bush Fire Danger Period
📞 Contact your local RFS www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

⚠️ IT’S NOT JUST FIRE PERMITS:
In Eurobodalla, open burning is also regulated by environmental laws
👉 You may need approval under the
Protection of the Environment Operations (Clean Air) Regulation
👉 Some burns may be restricted or not allowed at all, depending on location and purpose

✅ BEFORE YOU BURN (EVERYWHERE):
✔️ Notify neighbours + fire authority (24 hrs prior)
✔️ Supervise the fire at all times
✔️ Check weather conditions
✔️ NO burning on Total Fire Ban or No Burn Days
✔️ Make sure your burn complies with local council & EPA rules
