The Balook HR burnt well this afternoon.

There is still active fire well within the boundaries of the burn, which does not pose a threat. We will continue to monitor overnight.

Planned Hazard Reduction Burn – Lilli Pilli

NSW RFS crews will be undertaking a hazard reduction burn on Friday, 1st May at Balook Crescent, Lilli Pilli.

Firefighters will be on scene conducting controlled burning operations to reduce fuel loads and help protect the local community ahead of future fire seasons.

Smoke may be visible in the area throughout the day and into the evening. Residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed if smoke is present and take extra care when driving, as visibility may be reduced.

Fire practitioners from Batemans Bay Local Aboriginal Land Council will be conducting a small Cultural Burn (4ha) at Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve today, Thursday the 30th April and Friday the 1st of May 2026.

The location of the Cultural Burn is within the Square Head section of the reserve (see image below).

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be supporting the Cultural burn and will have overall responsibility for the safe operation of the burn.

While the burn is undertaken, walking tracks will be closed. Smoke warning and burn in progress signs will also be in place. To ensure safety, the public should not enter these areas while the operation is underway. Walking tracks will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe and operations are completed.

Friday morning spill πŸ«— πŸš›

On Friday morning, our crew attended a large diesel spill of approximately 80L after a truck suffered a mechanical failure on George Bass Drive.

Our crew were quick on scene in our Cat 9 as they were available in the local area after dropping our Cat 1 off to get new tyres. πŸš’

Our crews managed traffic alongside South Coast Police District until the arrival of Fire and Rescue NSW Station 217 Batemans Bay who attended with 3 vehicles including their hazardous materials van. 🚨

All crews worked together to apply a significant amount of absorbent material to contain the spill, render it safe and prevent run off into a nearby stormwater drain.

We thank council who took over traffic control and final cleaning of the site with a street sweeper.

Brassknocker fire trail Fire CONTAINED

The Brassknocker fire has been moved to contained status this morning. Crews attempted to access the site today, however conditions remain very wet and ground access is still limited.

We will continue to monitor the area over the coming days using both vehicle patrols and aircraft, and will provide further information as soon as it is safe for firefighters to access the fireground.

There is no threat to the community, and firefighter safety remains our priority. Thank you for your continued patience and support.
