User Guidelines

Bega Valley Shire Council’s page provides information on Council services, activities, events, programs and news. It’s one of many communication channels Council uses to engage with the community and provides a place for open discussion and comment. Council is in no way responsible for the views expressed and accuracy of information stated in public comments on its Facebo

ok page. Council will manage its page, including responding to comments and the removal of unsuitable material, during normal business operating hours only. Our page is a place for constructive discussion about local issues. Positive and negative comments form the basis of constructive discussion, but like all online and offline public forums, there is a level of moderation needed to ensure fairness to other users and those who are featured on our page. Please read the following guidelines so we can all engage in fair, open and vibrant conversation:

1. Council will not tolerate content that is offensive, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, bullying, discriminatory, hateful, racist, sexist, infringes copyright, constitutes contempt of court or is otherwise unlawful. Comments containing any of the above will be removed and the author will be permanently blocked from interacting on Council’s page.

2. Please stay on topic. Random comments that do not relate to individual posts are a distraction and discourage others from engaging in relevant conversation.

4. Please do not repeat comments in multiple threads. This will be seen as an attempt to derail the conversation and treated as spam.

5. Please do not post comments and links made for commercial purposes and personal gain.

6. Trolling and using a fake online identity to abuse others or praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one's self, allies or company (sock puppetry) are not acceptable.

7. Spam will not be tolerated on Council’s page.

8. Please protect your personal privacy by not including email addresses, phone numbers or home addresses on the public wall.

9. Please also be aware of Facebook’s own Community Standards policy. The administrators of this page reserve the right to:

• Moderate comments that do not adhere to the above
• Remove comments that may bring individuals into disrepute
• Block or ban those who post vexatious or off-topic comments. Comments that question these guidelines or moderation of our page will be removed. Thank you for being an important part of our growing online community.

🚰 Water supply interruption – Tantawangalo to Candelo 🚰

Our water team is currently repairing a water main break on the main trunk line between Tantawangalo and Candelo.

💧 Water supply has been temporarily turned off while repairs are carried out.
👷‍♂️ Staff are onsite and working to restore supply as soon as possible.

Affected areas:

👉 Tantawangalo
👉 Candelo

When water is back on, please run your taps for about a minute to flush out any air or cloudiness (aeration) in the system.

Thanks for your patience and understanding while these repairs are completed. 💙

👉Night road works scheduled for parts of Merimbula

Night road works are scheduled in parts of Merimbula from Monday 15 June to Wednesday 24 June, weather permitting.

As part of Council’s ongoing road maintenance and upgrade program, contractors and Council crews will carry out road strengthening and resurfacing works at several locations across Merimbula.

These works will strengthen and extend the life of the existing road surface, improving driving conditions and safety for all road users.

Work will take place between 6pm and 6am at the following locations:

📍Alice Street between Main Street and Beach Street from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June
📍Monaro Street between Market Street and Kyeamba Street from Monday 22 June to Tuesday 23 June
📍Short Street at the intersection with Market Street from Tuesday 23 June and Wednesday 24 June

Changed traffic conditions will be in place for the duration of the works, including a reduced speed limit. Traffic control will also be on-site to assist road users.

Road users should expect minor delays. There will be no on-street parking during working hours.

We thank the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.

🗣️ Feedback sought on Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-30

Council’s Draft 2025-2030 Disability Inclusion Action Plan is now on public exhibition and open for comment until Tuesday 30 July.

The shire has a significant percentage of its population that is ageing and/or has a disability that will directly benefit from improved inclusion and accessibility.

The feedback gathered through community engagement helps Council understand the challenges people with disability face in accessing services and facilities, as well as opportunities in the shire. Feedback will directly inform the new actions included in the plan.

PETS - FOUND - STONEY CREEK
🐶🐱🐭🐹

A ginger cat has been found in Stoney Creek.

Unfortunately, he was not microchipped at the time he was found.

If you believe this may be your cat, please contact Council's Ranger Services on 6499 2222 for more information.

‼ Microchipping is a legal requirement for cats and dogs in NSW. The microchip number is recorded on the NSW Pet Registry and linked to the owner’s contact details. Your pet's microchip helps identify them if they are lost or stolen.
If your pet is lost and scanned by a vet, ranger or shelter, the microchip number can be used to contact you.
