Hi everyone,
On Friday we reached a very exciting milestone for the $12 million redevelopment of East Derwent Primary School, with the release of the draft concept plan for the proposed major works to our school, which includes some artist’s impressions of how our new facilities might look.
The draft concept plan has been heavily shaped by the feedback we received through the consultation with our students, staff and local community undertaken last year on what the priorities for these works should be.
At this stage, it is expected that construction works will kick off in 2027 and be completed in late 2028.
I know that like me, you are excited about the opportunities the new spaces will offer our students and staff – not only for many of our current cohort, but also the next generation of learners who will commence their education journeys with us in the future.
You can view the draft concept plan and artist’s impressions and provide any feedback via the Department for Education, Children and Young People website at https://www.decyp.tas.gov.au/project/jrlf-east-derwent-primary-school/ until 10 July 2026.

On Wednesday, a selected team represented East Derwent Primary at the SPSSA Inter Primary Cross Country Carnival at Bayview Secondary College. The students should be commended in the way they represented the school. Students were cheering on each other and other students, interacting positively with others and demonstrating resilience by finishing their races.

East Derwent came 13th out of 21 schools which was a pleasing effort.

A big thankyou to Miss Sorensen, Corey, and Grace who came along to assist our students.

In term 2 we have explored our food identities as well as foods that connect to memories for us.

We have discovered how we can make some homemade versions of our favourite foods- potato chips with mayo and tomato sauce. Using fresh potatoes and tomatoes from the garden, we learnt that our homemade versions are a lot healthier and very delicious!

With winter arriving, we have followed the seasons and planted different crops, replacing tomatoes and zucchinis.
The grade 3/4s have also put in a monster effort to bake 100s of muffins for the 5/6 camp!

Its been a busy cold season!

🚀🪐 1/2 Tame/Hibberd have launched into our Space Inquiry this term!

Students have begun exploring what they already know about space and have shared lots of exciting questions about planets, stars, astronauts, and our solar system. We have already discovered some interesting facts about space and are excited to continue our learning journey. Through investigations, hands-on activities, creative projects, and plenty of curious questioning, we will be developing our understanding of the universe beyond Earth.

We look forward to sharing our discoveries and learning throughout the term. 🌎✨

Our LiL and Pre Kinder students have been learning all about the colours they discovered in the book ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’🐻
They enjoyed scooping rice to make shaker bottles to find and name the coloured animals and painting the animals from the story 🎨
If you’d like to give your little one a great start to their school journey and join our sessions, please contact our school office!
