Live on Wednesday, 1st of July 2026

TasRail is rolling out new safety technology at level crossing sites across Tasmania to improve driver awareness and reduce risk. The upgrades focus on stop sign-controlled level crossings, where safety depends entirely on drivers slowing down, stopping, and checking for trains.

Passionate about your community and ready to make a difference?

Local government elections are happening this October across all 29 Tasmanian councils.

If you’re considering nominating for councillor, mayor or deputy mayor, now is the perfect time to learn what’s involved.

The Local Government Association of Tasmania has released a Candidate Handbook covering eligibility, the nomination process and campaigning. It’s a great place to start.

Download it from the LGAT website: https://www.lgat.tas.gov.au/council-elections

🐾 FOUND DOG – BEECHFORD AREA 🐾

This beautiful young girl was picked up Monday (1st of June) morning just outside of Beechford on Old Soldier Settlement Road and is currently being cared for by George Town Council.

She is in excellent condition, very friendly, and loves playing ball, leading us to believe she is well loved and likely being missed by her owners.

Council kindly asks Beechford residents to please check with neighbours, friends, and family members who may not be active on social media to help reunite her with her family.

If you recognise this dog or know who she belongs to, please contact George Town Council on 6382 8800.

💭 Community Consultation: Proposed Memorial Bench Seat - Doug Burt

Council has received a proposal to install a memorial bench seat off The Strand, George Town (see image for proposed location), in honour of the late Doug Burt.

The late Doug Burt was a long-serving member of the community and also a former Council member serving the George Town Council from 1999-2011 and 2014-2018, holding positions as Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillor. Doug also spent many hours volunteering with the Rotary Club of George Town and the Chamber of Commerce.

Council is seeking any feedback in relation to the proposal. Please provide any written feedback to the proposal via [email protected] by 5pm, 29th of June 2026.

Have Your Say on Tasmania’s Waste & Resource Recovery Strategy 2026–2031.

Tasmania is shaping its next Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, and right now the community has a real chance to influence what our state’s future looks like. This strategy will guide how we reduce waste, improve recycling, support a circular economy, and protect our environment over the next five years, but it can only work if it reflects the voices of the people who live here.

Your input matters because communities understand what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s missing. Whether you’re a household, a business, a farmer, a student, or a volunteer, your perspective helps shape practical, realistic actions.

Let’s work together to build Tasmania into a place where nothing is wasted.
