📱 Reminder: The AusAlert National Test is Tomorrow.

Tomorrow at 1:30 pm ACST, the Australian Government will conduct the AusAlert national test.

This test is designed to help people recognise what an AusAlert message looks and sounds like, and to ensure the system is ready to be used during real emergencies.

What you can expect

📱 Compatible mobile devices across Australia may receive a Critical AusAlert message.

🔊 Your device may play the alert sound, vibrate and display the message on screen.

⚠️ The test is being sent as a Critical Alert, which cannot be turned off through your device settings.

Before 1:30 pm

✔️ Let family, friends and colleagues know the test is happening.
✔️ If you support older people, people with disability, children, or anyone who may be startled by the alert, take a few moments to explain what they can expect.
✔️ If you have meetings, presentations, classes or events scheduled around 1:30 pm, consider letting attendees know in advance that devices may briefly sound or vibrate.

During the test

✅ Read the message.
✅ There is no action required during today’s national test.
✅ Once you’ve read it, simply dismiss the notification and continue with your day.

The test is an important step in helping ensure Australians are familiar with AusAlert before it’s needed during a real emergency.

For more information, including compatible devices, accessibility information and frequently asked questions, visit www.ausalert.gov.au.

FAQs
Q. Do I need a physical fitness test before I apply?
A. No. For our firefighters, all we ask is an average level of fitness for your age, and an awareness that some jobs can be a physically demanding, though for all other CFS roles, an ability to do the role is all you need.
Q. Do I need to take time of work?
A. No. Our Brigade trains every Tuesday night between 7.00 and 9.30pm. In terms of incidents, we only ask that you respond to incidents when you are able. If you are in a job that allows flexibility to attend, then that's a bonus!
Q. Does being a CFS member cost anything?
A. No, CFS will kit you out with firefighting PPE, and all equipment you will need. If you need to attend training, CFS will also reimburse you for vehicle use and fuel if a CFS vehicle wasn’t available.
Q. When will I start attending fires and incidents?
A. For your first 6-8 weeks of training, you are not required to attend callouts as a firefighter, though you are welcome to attend the station and assist with radio communications and operations support. Once you have completed your initial weekend Basic Firefighter course, you are eligible to attend callouts with the rest of our awesome volunteers.
Q. Can women be CFS firefighters?
A. Yes, like all CFS Brigades, Kadina CFS have female firefighters and operations staff. We encourage anyone that is willing to train with us and assist with incidents to join us. Some jobs can be physically demanding though, however you are never alone and always working as part of a team, so we don't expect any of our members to give more than they are capable of.
Q. How old do I need to be?
A. 18+. Kadina CFS currently have firefighters and support staff ranging from 21 to 60+. As long as you feel you can contribute we want you, regardless of age.
Q. How often do you get call outs?
A. Call outs vary based on time of year, though 10 or 15 a month is a rough measure. Remember though, we do not require that you attend all incidents.
Got questions?
Feel free to ask them in the comments below or send us a message. Please share this post with any friends or groups you think would be interested!

Where will you go if a fire is near by?

Make sure your bushfire action plan is ready to go.

TOTAL FIRE BANS have been declared for Friday 30 January 2026 in the following Fire Ban Districts:

West Coast - Extreme
Eastern Eyre Peninsula - Extreme
Yorke Peninsula - Extreme

Where Total Fire Bans have been declared, very hazardous fire weather conditions are predicted.

The Total Fire Ban will apply for 24 hours from midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

The CFS recommends that you implement your Bushfire Survival Plan.

Fire Danger Ratings
Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of Extreme, only well prepared, well constructed and actively defended houses are likely to offer safety during a fire.

What should you do
If you don't have a plan to ensure your survival, leaving early before a fire starts is your safest option.

In making your plan, you should be aware that in high fire danger conditions, essential services including mains-fed electricity and water supply may not be available due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight.

Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions
