Regional Housing Support Fund awards grants to support the delivery of new homes.

Congratulations to three applicants from the Goldfields-Esperance region receiving more than $10 million to support the delivery of 118 new homes for key workers and seniors in the region, as well as
36 new residential lots:

- Kalgoorlie Management Pty Ltd C/-M/Group for the Amara Estate at Hart Kerspien Drive, Broadwood.

-Shire of Esperance for the Esperance Flinders Estate Stage 3,
Bandy Creek.

- Shire of Dundas for Pensioner Community Housing at Prinsep St, Norseman.

A ServiceWA Digital Assist Kiosk opens this week in Kalgoorlie, at William Grundt Memorial Library Roberts Street

Tuesday 11 August - Friday 14 August, 10am-4pm

ServiceWA Digital Assist Kiosk will offer face to face help to access cost-of-living relief rebates like the Fuel Support Payment and the WA Student Assistance Payment.

The kiosk is free to attend and no booking is required. Simply bring your charged smart device with the ServiceWA and myID apps installed, Australian identity documents and bank details.

The Perpetual Entertainment team are in Esperance this week filming for a proposed documentary on the US space station, Skylab. Skylab infamously re-entered the atmosphere and crashed near Balladonia in July 1979, with parts being found across Esperance and the south coast for years to come.

That's a wrap for Diggers & Dealers 2026; as Kalgoorlie's premier mining conference comes to a close for another year.

More than 2,600 delegates descended on the City, with plenty to talk about.

The local gold construction boom has highlighted skills shortage areas in engineering and specialised contractors, while vanadium batteries were showcased for their ability to provide long-duration energy storage and support energy security.

Record high gold prices enables operations throughout the region to invest and develop; with Kalgoorlie, Norseman and Leonora based operators anticipating strong growth.

The world-record bar weighs in at 521.2kg and is refined to an exceptional 99.999 per cent purity; at current spot prices, it’ll fetch a cool $100 million.

It's not every day you spot a tractor on a road trip!

A Massey Ferguson tractor and its' crew took an epic 11-day adventure through the Wheatbelt and Goldfields, through to Esperance, before heading back to Perth, to demonstrate the use of biofuels.

The GEDC supported the tour, which will feature in a documentary called ‘Fuelling the Backbone of the Nation’, to promote carbon farming and bioenergy use.

Switch-ing things up in Kalgoorlie-Boulder!

More than 1,200 streetlights have now been upgraded across the City, as Stage 1 of the LED Streetlighting Upgrade Project is completed.

The upgrades are part of a partnership between the State Government, City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Western Power and will help deliver more energy-efficient lighting.

By early 2027, around 1,900 streetlights across Kalgoorlie-Boulder will be converted to LED.
