Many moons ago a local bloke called Jack along with a few mates, built a road.

A vision, a short cut through the rugged McPherson Ranges ~ a road connecting Kyogle to Brisbane ❗️

Back in the 1970’s the mighty Kyogle Lions Club took on a herculean community project ~ to build a road that governments had rejected.

Armed with grit, sheer determination with borrowed gear, hardy volunteers including my grandfather, cleared heavy scrub to turn an impossible dream into a reality.

Jack Hurley had a powerful saying “Bite off more than you can chew, and chew like mad”

Today the Kyogle Lions Club celebrated its long association with this famous ‘short cut’ ~ a generous donation for its upkeep, along with unveiling a beautiful sign telling this remarkable history.

Embracing digital technology you can now make a ‘donation’ using Pay ID at the border crossing! 💵

Now Jack would be pleased 🙏

Gotta Luv Xmas in July and on the 25th 🎄

Congrats to the amazing Lynchs Creek Hall committee for yet another wonderful, fun filled evening ~ raising much needed funds for our local community groups !

With a spot light on the extraordinary work that Kyogle Community Gateway do across our region it was a great night.

Ross is an acclaimed Australian contemporary artist internationally known for his exquisite hyper-realistic paintings of corrugated iron and a local Kyogle Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade volunteer 🔥 🚒

Having completed over 18 solo exhibitions with international showings in New York, London, and Sydney ~ it’s now Kyogle’s turn ❗️

This extraordinary retrospective is a celebration of a 30-year career titled ‘Made in Australia’ and it’s on at the Roxy Gallery Kyogle

It’s a must see exhibition… it’s exquisite.

As gateway to the rainforests what a stunning day for the inaugural Kyogle Gravel Classics

Only a couple of hours away from the ‘big smoke’, great to see a couple of hundred entrants in our town.

Just be aware ~ as a few of our locals now know ~ come for a day, stay for a lifetime!

NAIDOC theme of "50 Years of Deadly" is a celebration of strength ~ It honored the Elders, organizers, activists, and artists who built and sustained the movement.

It represents cultural resilience ~ It recognized 50 years of excellence, visibility, and pride.

It looks to the future ~ The milestone celebrates current First Nations leadership and looks to the next 50 years of preserving language, culture, and Country.

In Kyogle today that all came together in a deadly way ~ sincere congrats to community ~ it was absolutely deadly !

As gateway to the rainforests the inaugural 2026 Kyogle Gravel Classics is on this weekend. 🚴‍♀️

It’s a premium gravel bike cycling event right here in our backyard 🚴‍♂️

Showcasing our world heritage natural scenery, the Gravel Classic promises to put Kyogle on the gravel bike touring map ~ with no road closures, it’s a tough, hard core bike challenge! Sounds like fun 🤩

Wogun Gulli NAIDOC Community Celebration
Friday 24 July 2026

KMI Hall and Stratheden Street, Kyogle

Owing to the site conditions at Anzac Park, the Wogun Gulli NAIDOC Community Celebration will be relocated to the Stratheden Street Precinct and KMI Hall.

Stratheden Street will be closed on Friday 24 July from 6am, between Summerland Way and Roxy Lane (KMI Banquet Room).

GGLALC and the NAIDOC Committee have planned a wonderful community celebration with live music, market stalls, cultural activities, 50 Years of Deadly fashion parade, dance, food and community talks and workshops.

We hope you will join us for Wogun Gulli as we celebrate '50 Years of Deadly'.

As a conversation starter, a community voice was heard … attending as I did my take home message was real community concerns around environmental, economic and social impacts ~ clearly there’s a lot more detailed studies that need to be done.

As our National Science Agency, CSIRO have delivered exactly what they were asked to do … to test scenarios around future flood mitigation.

The key words being ‘test scenarios’

The same agency who have been telling us about the climatic impacts that we are now living with. The frequency and intensity of environmental disasters ever increasing.

To my mind it’s not about upper and lower catchment, we are all in this together.

Here in Kyogle a whole of ‘catchment conversation’ has now kicked off.

From my perspective, there’s more questions than answers ~ the process from here in terms of ‘further studies’ has a very long way to go.

The key words being ‘further studies’.

I’m not convinced that the triple bottom line will stack up, environmental, economic and importantly, social values 🤔

Importantly, I also heard first hand the personal impacts, the personal stories that this and further ‘studies’ is now having ~ creating uncertainty ~ if you or anyone you know needs support reach out to LifeLine 131114
