What a simply wonderful presentation from Dr Matthew Stephens and Jo Nicholas from Museums of History NSW at the Mudgee Library this afternoon for latest Monday History Talk.

It was a totally full house. Those lucky enough to secure a free ticket were delighted by the information about houses, interiors, and gardens in NSW. But best of all was being able to view a selection of ephemera from the MHNSW collection after the presentation. It was amazing to see some local representation among the exhibits that were on display.

A huge thank you to the knowledgeable and generous experts for taking the time to share with us today. We hope we can lure them back again.

Thanks to a generous donation from the NSW Education Standards Authority [NESA], the Library now has a number of new HSC exam workbooks available to borrow.
These excellent study aids cover a number of core topics like Legal Studies, Chemistry, Biology, Modern History, and more. They allow students to practice real exam question, then self-assess their responses compared to the top-scoring answers from the 2020 exams.

National Reconciliation Week encourages all Australians to pause, reflect, and take action towards reconciliation.

One of the simplest ways to begin is by learning more.

Visit the library to explore powerful stories, histories, and voices from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What a wonderful National Simultaneous Storytime we had today at the Town Hall Theatre reading "Luna Roo - the Kangaroo Baller" written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton.

A big thank you to Mrs Vitnell from Mudgee Gulgong Wolves FC for being our special guest reader, and to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a special shared reading experience. It was fantastic to see so many children, families, and community members coming together to celebrate stories and imagination.

We appreciate you being part of it and look forward to seeing you at our next Library event.

📚 Storytime is more than just listening - it’s a chance for little readers to think, talk, and connect with stories.

Asking simple questions while reading helps children build language skills, understand what’s happening, and share their own ideas and imagination.

We’ve put together some great storytime questions for younger readers in the photos below 👇

These prompts are perfect for:
• sparking curiosity
• encouraging conversation
• helping children engage more deeply with books

There are no right or wrong answers, just opportunities to pause, wonder, and talk together.

Try picking one or two questions next time you share a story and see where the conversation goes.

Thanks to the generosity of the The State Library of New South Wales' Local Priority Grant we've updated some of our shelves recently. We love the fresh, streamlined look, and hope to start making use of the new review holders from Merchandising Libraries at all of our branches over the coming weeks - perhaps they'll help you find your next read!
