There might not be a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, but there is something just as important… tidal flow has been restored.

These before and after snapshots show part of the incredible transformation that's taking place within the tidal flow restoration area.

And a new picnic table and shelter to soak up the views or hide from the sun or the rain!

Have you taken a walk along the racecourse yet to see the changes for yourself?

And that’s a wrap on National Volunteer Week.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful Panboola volunteers who give their time, skills and care to this special place throughout the year.

Not everyone can volunteer their time, and that’s okay too. Whether it’s a one-off donation, becoming a Friend of Panboola, or simply helping spread the word about what we do, every bit of support helps us continue caring for this beautiful wetlands area and the wildlife that call it home.

And if something we’ve shared this week has sparked your interest, why not reach out? [email protected]

It’s National Volunteers Week, and we’ll be celebrating and highlighting the wonderful work of our Panboola volunteers all week long, with the hope of perhaps enticing a few new faces to join us too.

One of the biggest misconceptions about volunteering at Panboola is that you need to commit to set hours or lock yourself into a strict schedule. We're happy to tell you, that’s not the case at all.

For some volunteers, it looks like showing up every week. For others, it’s a few hours here and there, once a month, or simply whenever life allows. Whatever you can offer matters to our conservation efforts, and there’s always room at the table (aka Rob’s Shed) for you.

Our volunteer group meet on Thursdays, and we always love to welcome new faces. You won't find a friendlier, more welcoming bunch!

If you’d like to register your interest, contact Michelle [email protected] or drop into the office on Tuesday or Wednesday for a chat.

You're invited!

On Saturday May 23rd, we invite you and your family to join us for a special milestone, the Healing of Sea Country event at the Old Pambula Racecourse as we celebrate the completion of tidal restoration works at the Wetlands, coinciding with World Fish Migration Day.

These rehabilitation works mark the return of tidal flows across this section of the Pambula River estuarine floodplain for the first time in more than 130 years, helping strengthen the area’s resilience to flooding, climate change, and sea level rise while restoring important fish passageways and improving water quality throughout the wetland and estuary.

The project involved removing sections of the historic Pambula Racecourse embankment to reconnect the river with its floodplain at Panboola and nearby Beowa National Park. Two new bridges have also been constructed to ensure the much-loved walking track remains accessible for the community and volunteers.

The event will run from 10am–1pm and will include:
• Welcome to Country & Smoking ceremony
• Cultural dancing
• Presentations from project partners and government representatives
• Light refreshments

Parking will be available at Rob’s Shed. Please allow plenty of time to get to the event site at the Old Pambula Racecourse which requires a short 10-minute walk. Our electric cart will also be available for anyone requiring assistance.

We’d love to see as many of you there as possible as we come together to celebrate this important step in restoring and caring for the wetlands area 🌿
