When it comes to floods, preparation is key.

The Hunter region may see heavy rainfall later this week with some flash flooding occurring🌧️🐄🐎

When caring for your livestock:
✅ Use high ground – Identify a safe, debris-free area that’s easy to access, even during heavy rain.
✅ Secure your livestock – Set up stables or portable yards on high ground to keep them safe.
✅ Plan alternative locations – Have a backup site ready and ensure you have permission to use it.
✅ Stock up on essentials – Have sufficient supplies of fresh water and sufficient fodder on hand to ensure the welfare of your animals.
✅ Provide shelter – Ensure shading or a windrow to protect animals from the elements.

By planning ahead, you can reduce risks, protect your animals, and recover faster.

🐨 More than 30 people recently joined us at Gloucester for a fun, hands-on day in the great outdoors to see the incredible koala detection dogs from Canines For Wildlife at work.

🐾 Participants saw a real survey unfold as the dogs Max and Poa helped detect koala presence by finding koala s**t (poo) on a property that hadn’t previously been formally surveyed.

🌿 The great news was the dogs located multiple fresh s**t sites under important koala feed trees, helping build a better picture of where koalas occur and the habitats they use.

🌱 Participants also learnt about koala ecology, local threats and the practical steps being taken to protect habitat across the Gloucester and greater Mid Coast area.

🤝 Our partners from MidCoast Council, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Gloucester NSW Environment Group - GEG and MidCoast2Tops Landcare Connection were also on hand to talk about current koala conservation projects and how the community can get involved.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme - “All In” - is a reminder that reconciliation is something we all take part in, every day. It’s not something we watch from the sidelines.

At the NSW Government’s Local Land Services, being "All In" means supporting landholders to recognise, respect and protect Aboriginal cultural heritage on the land they manage.

The resources available on our website is one practical way we do this - helping landholders understand:
🔍 what to look for on their property
🧭 why cultural heritage matters
📞 what to do next if something is identified

Because caring for Country is something we all share. Reconciliation isn’t just a conversation - it’s action. And on the land, that can start with awareness, respect and informed decisions.

Not all land management advice online is created equal.

🤖 AI tools draw on information from around the world. That means advice about pasture, weeds, livestock or soil health may come from places with very different climates, soils and farming systems.

⚠️ Sometimes the information can be out of date, inaccurate or not suited to local conditions.

Before acting on advice you find online, it’s always worth checking with someone who understands the local environment and local regulations.

The NSW Government’s Local Land Services team work on the ground across the region and can help tailor advice to your property and when it comes to managing land, local context matters.

🧭 Before you ask AI, ask Local Land Services - if you have a question about your land, start with the people who know it best.
