Voices for Reconciliation: Beds Are Burning πŸ”₯
We are proud to have Beds Are Burning as the 2026 Voices for Reconciliation song.

Beds Are Burning, written and performed by Midnight Oil, is a powerful anthem that hit a chord nationally and internationally and became a defining soundtrack of the land rights movement.

The song was inspired by the Uluru-Kata Tjuta handback to the Anangu people in 1985 and was written over the course of the 1986 Blackfella/Whitefella tour the Oils embarked on with Warumpi Band throughout Western Desert and Arnhem Land communities.

Decades later, its message still resonates. The song stands as a powerful call to action to know our history and be All In to create a more just, equitable and reconciled future for us all.

πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ As National Reconciliation Week continues… we are reminded that reconciliation doesn't happen just one week of the year – it's an active choice we make every single day.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme is All In: a call for every one of us to act and inspire change. For too long, the weight of reconciliation has rested on Aboriginal peoples' shoulders β€” this National Reconciliation Week is a reminder that it belongs to all of us. Reconciliation will not happen without all of us coming together to reflect, celebrate and take active steps to put words into practice.

πŸ’ͺπŸ‰πŸ† SAASTA POWER CUP 2026 πŸ†πŸ‰πŸ’ͺ
Last week, 23 students from Port Augusta Secondary School and Quorn Area School travelled to Adelaide to proudly represent the Port Augusta SAASTA Academy team at the 19th Santos SAASTA Power Cup.

The students demonstrated an outstanding level of skill, sportsmanship, teamwork and engagement throughout both the male and female competitions, representing their schools and community with pride.

On Saturday, students had the opportunity to participate in a range of cultural activities at the remarkable Yitpi Yartapuultiku cultural centre. The day continued with a presentation at Adelaide Oval, followed by the curtain-raiser cultural dance performance. Students proudly showcased their talents alongside the incredible Spinifex Gum choir, who delivered a powerful live performance.

The experience provided students with the opportunity to strengthen their cultural connections, develop leadership skills, build new friendships, and create lasting memories both on and off the field.

The Port Augusta SAASTA Academy would like to congratulate all students on the way they conducted themselves throughout the event and thank the staff, families and supporters who helped make the trip such a success.
