🐋🌊 Absolutely staggering drone footage from Fowlers Bay! 🚁

🔧 Maintenance Night at Port Lincoln SES 🚨

Last night, our members conducted a maintenance night, running and checking all our small engines and working within our recently established vehicle teams.

This team-based approach allows members to manage and monitor the equipment carried on each vehicle while giving our newer recruits the opportunity to become familiar with it under the guidance of experienced members.

Any faults or concerns are reported to our Operations Response Manager for follow-up.

To reward our members for their consistent training and attendance at requests for assistance, we finished the evening with hot dogs and a relaxed catch-up. 🌭

A big thank you to Coles Bakery and Drakes Supermarkets for their generous donations of rolls and other supplies, our members certainly enjoyed them!

🌊 A quick trip to my happy place…

The wind is up, rain showers are rolling through and the waves are crashing along the coastline. There’s something mesmerising about the sound, the fresh sea air and simply watching the world go by.

The final photo looks straight across Sleaford Bay from Lone Pine towards Cape Tournefort—approximately 14 km away. It’s certainly not a clear image at that distance, but it gives some perspective on just how huge those waves must be crashing against the rocks! 🌊💥

We’re so lucky to call the Eyre Peninsula home. 💙

Phone on silent now—it’s time to sit back and take it all in. 😌

🌾 Thousands of people will wander through the gates of the Eyre Peninsula Field Days this week, but few have as much history with the event as Geoff Bammann.

The Cleve farmer has been part of every single field day since day one -that's 50 years as a founding committee member!

We caught up with Geoff Bammann, who's recently earned his own version of an OBE – Over Bloody Eighty – to hear how one trip to Orange helped shape 50 years of Eyre Peninsula Field Days.

MORE THAN JUST GETTING AIRBORNE 🚁🛠️

Today’s maintenance covered gear, batteries, calibrations, firmware updates and lens cleaning. 🔧

When out flying I often get this question so I thought I'd explain it in simple terms.

What does safe flying mean?
Considering weather 🌦️, airspace 🗺️, other drones, crewed aircraft ✈️ and the public 👥. I always use a landing pad and cones, adding signage in busy areas to make the operation visible and encourage conversations about drone safety. 🚧🪧💬

Pilots must maintain Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) 👀.

This is the more technical part of flying but drone operators need to be aware. If you want to fly EVLOS (Extended Visual Line of Sight) or BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) requires RePL (Remote Pilot Licence), operation under a ReOC (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator’s Certificate) and the relevant CASA approval, plus an AROC (Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate) where aeronautical radio is required.📻

🚁 FROM THE SHOWGROUND TO THE SKY! 🚁

I spent around an hour and a half on the sticks flying the Matrice 4TD as a volunteer member of the West Operations Support Unit Drone Team at the Port Lincoln Show.

It was a great opportunity to give members of the public an insight into the capability of this impressive aerial asset, from thermal imaging and mapping missions to providing overwatch and scene lighting.

Plenty of questions, plenty of interest and a great day at the Show, from a different perspective! 😎

🎣 Salmon central at Wreck Beach today!

Big schools of salmon hugged the coastline, with plenty of fishers out trying their luck before tomorrow’s weather rolls in.

My favourite shot is the lone fisherman, captured from 50 metres using my DJI Mavic3Pro using the fixed 3× zoom.

That long shadow really tells the story!
