📣 West Coast businesses: getting ready for new visitor growth

The arrival of the new Spirit of Tasmania this October will mark the beginning of a significant increase in visitors travelling to and through the West Coast.

Businesses providing products, services and experiences to visitors are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for the opportunities this growth will bring.

To support local operators, the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), in partnership with Spirit of Tasmania and West by North West (WXNW), is hosting a free workshop offering insights into:

🚗 The self‑drive and caravan market
🛳️ The types of visitors travelling on the new ships
📈 The broader marketing strategy and expected visitor trends

Workshop details:

📅 Wednesday, 1 July
⏰ 2:00pm – 4:00pm
📍 paranaple Convention Centre, Devonport
💲 Free to attend
🔗 Registration is essential: https://events.humanitix.com/spirit-readiness-workshops?mc_cid=66a2bfb806&mc_eid=f462677456

This is a valuable opportunity for West Coast businesses to prepare, plan and make the most of the increased visitation ahead.

A meaningful ceremony, led by our local Aboriginal community, was held on Monday 1 June as part of National Reconciliation Week.

Community members took the opportunity to come together, pause, listen and deepen our understanding of First Nations perspectives, while reaffirming a shared commitment to reconciliation within our community.

Thank you to all who attended.

Passionate about your community and ready to make a difference?

Local government elections are happening this October across all
29 Tasmanian councils.

If you’re considering nominating for councillor, mayor or deputy
mayor, now is the perfect time to learn what’s involved.

The Local Government Association of Tasmania has released a
Candidate Handbook covering eligibility, the nomination process
and campaigning. It’s a great place to start.

👉 How to get a handbook:

- Download it from the LGAT website:
https://www.lgat.tas.gov.au/council-elections
- pick up a copy of the handbook from the Council office at 11 Sticht Street, Queenstown.
- If you live outside of Queenstown and would like a pack (and can't download a copy), call us on 6471 4700 and we'll post a copy to you, free of charge.

📆 Rates Reminder Letters

Reminder letters for outstanding rates payments have been issued.

If you've received a reminder letter, it’s a good time to check your payments - especially if you pay periodically - to make sure you’re contributing enough to keep your account up to date.

📈 Overdue rates attract interest and staying on top of payments helps avoid extra charges.

If you’re finding it tough or need to talk through your situation, please reach out to Council. Early conversations give us more room to help.
