Our Careers at Rockhampton Regional Council and Advance Rockhampton teams had a fantastic time connecting with students at the Capricorn MEGA Careers Expo today.

As the region’s flagship jobs and training event, it was great to showcase the diverse career opportunities available both within Council and across our growing area.

We’re proud to be a major partner of this annual event, and we’re excited to continue our sponsorship through to 2028, supporting local pathways and future careers.

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 ✨🌿

We've just completed upgrades to the North Rockhampton Cemetery, enhancing the site’s safety and overall amenity while preserving its rich heritage.

With a new 210 metre roadway, carefully selected tree plantings and improved access and parking, the space offers a more peaceful and welcoming environment for families to reflect and remember loved ones.

First used for burials in 1879, Council is committed to honouring the site’s history— with new tree plantings and landscaped gardens expected to grow over time to create a beautiful space for remembrance for generations to come.

This week’s 7NEWS Central Queensland 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 is Tucker — a gentle Mastiff cross affectionately known as “Oldfella,” searching for a peaceful place to spend his golden years. 💛🐾

Found wandering and unable to be reunited with his owners, Tucker has been winning hearts with his calm nature and impeccable manners.

He’s a true gentleman — well trained, knows how to sit, shake hands, and walks beautifully on the lead.

Tucker is all about the simple life: relaxing under the trees, enjoying a full belly, and soaking up plenty of love and affection.

Due to the current economic environment, Council has made the difficult decision to defer the 2026 Rockhampton River Festival.

This is not a cancellation — it’s a chance for us to review the event. We want to ensure our events are financially responsible and are genuinely shaped by community priorities.

Contributing factors in this decision were rising event delivery costs and increasing operational pressures. This is a fully funded event by Council and we want to make sure ratepayers are getting the best value for money.

As part of the review, we will continue speaking with the sponsors, vendors, local businesses and artists in the coming weeks.

We appreciate your understanding.

A major international artwork is coming to Rockhampton Museum of Art - Urs Fischer’s four metre tall wax candle ‘portrait’, 𝐹𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑜.

This incredible life‑size wax figure will be lit on opening weekend and re‑lit each week, slowly melting over the months and changing shape each day until it completely disappears.

The work represents the cycle of birth, life and death of an artwork, which is then recast, blurring the lines between installation and sculpture.

Exhibition opens 9 May.
