Do you know a young woman who has made a meaningful difference in your community? Nominate them for the Inspiring Young Women’s Award.

The Inspiring Young Women’s Award will be presented for the first time in 2027 and shines a light on young Tasmanian women aged between 12 and 30.

CHECK THIS OUT - The Southern Tasmania heats of the 2026 APS Slam Poetry competition is coming in hot!

The Australian Poetry Slam is open to everyone whether they're seasoned performers, aspiring writers or simply curious about what happens when poetry meets the microphone. It's a chance for young people to find their voice, tell their stories, get creative and connect with others through the power of words.

Nervous? Workshops provide a fun, supportive environment to experiment with ideas, sharpen writing skills and build confidence on stage before stepping up to the mic at a Poetry Slam Heat. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to have a go.

Winners of each Tasmanian Heat will move through to the State Final at Glenorchy Library on Saturday 19 September. The Tasmanian winner will go on to represent Tasmania at the Australian Poetry Slam National Final at the iconic Sydney Opera House on Sunday 25 October.

🌟The Southern Tasmania Youth Forum 2026🌟

We are still BUZZING from this amazing day. Young people from all over Southern Tasmania joined forces in Sorell to share their voices on some of the biggest issues facing young people. They approached this day with such thoughtfulness, respect, and joy!

A huge thank you to Youth Network of Tasmania for bringing this event to Sorell.

A massive shout out and thank you to the local legends who helped support the event:

💫 Sorell School
- The student leaders played an integral part in planning, setting up, + speaking at the event
- The hospitality students catered and served over 100 serves of nachos

💫 Sorell Branch Country Women's Association who cooked and served a delicious morning tea spread

💫South East Tasmania Salvos who kept the momentum flowing with delicious hot choccies for all

It's a big week here at Fitzies, located at 11 Fitzroy Street Sorell.

We are a free, safe space for young people to hang out, eat food, and play.

MONDAY - Try your hand at crafting some Pot Sticker Dumplings, then revel in your delights.

TUESDAY - Learn the craft of baking from those who are the most trusted in the community...The CWA!

FRIDAY - Young people unite as Youth Network of Tasmania host the Southern Tasmania Youth Forum here in Sorell. Follow it up with another You’re Write Workshops here at Fitzies, or just come and debrief about the week that was.

One week until the Tasmanian Youth Forum South Regional Roadshow!
Friday 28 August at Sorell Memorial Hall!

This is the final stop of the 2026 Tasmanian Youth Forum Regional Roadshow and YNOTs biggest forum yet!
We're expecting more than 100 young people from 15 schools, councils and youth organisations. Young people will be joining us from right across the region - from Campbell Town to Dover, the Derwent Valley to Nubeena, and many places in between!
Throughout the day, young people will work together to identify the issues that matter most to them and develop ideas for change. We'll also be joined by local and state government representatives for the final presentation session, where they'll hear directly from young people about the priorities, solutions and action they want to see. Hey Fitzies Fam!

Unfortunately we won't be open for our usual after school drop in today BUT fear not....the Sorell School annual Winter Fest is on tonight, 5-7pm.

We will be back to regular programming next week with some fun Science Week activities and another You're Write workshop.

The first You're Write workshop was such a fun session. It is on again this afternoon, and there are still a limited number of spots available. Come along and work with talented artists Kiz and Hermit. 3pm - 4.30pm @ Fitzies, 11 Fitzroy Street Sorell.
