Being a retained firefighter means being part of something bigger. It’s the chance to learn new skills, challenge yourself, work alongside an incredible crew and make a genuine difference to the people and community around you.

You don’t need to have firefighting experience — we’ll provide the training. What we need is people who are reliable, committed and able to respond when the call comes.

Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club Motorfest 2026 🚒🔥

The Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club Motorfest 2026 put on a cracking show for the community, and we were pretty happy to be part of it! 🙌

We spent the day meeting and greeting you all, chatting about home fire safety, promoting our FREE Home Fire Safety Visits, and letting the community know that recruitment is now OPEN! 🔥👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Meet Our Newest Recruit – Kristy Chong 👩‍🚒

We know you’ll all make Kristy feel welcome as she begins her journey with Station 307!

What’s your name and where are you from?
Kristy Chong, originally from Sydney.

How long have you been with Fire and Rescue?
Since June 2026.

What inspired you to become a firefighter?
I was never fit for most of my life. When I turned my life around and made health and fitness a priority, it sparked a desire to give back through service.

What are you most looking forward to in your firefighting career?
Developing my skills and becoming more involved in community engagement.

What advice would you give someone considering joining Fire and Rescue?
My only regret is that I didn’t join sooner. You get to serve the community, be part of a team that’s passionate about the role they play, and the skills you learn are priceless.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my family, eating and training.

Favourite food?
Ramen.

Coffee or tea?
Tea.

Beach, bush, or mountains?
Beach.

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate Jon Lodge on his appointment as the permanent Deputy Captain at Station 307 👨‍🚒🎉

Since joining Fire and Rescue NSW in 2008, Jon has built a reputation as a calm, knowledgeable and dependable firefighter. No matter the situation, he approaches every challenge with confidence, professionalism and humility.

One of Jon’s greatest strengths is his passion for mentoring the next generation of firefighters. He generously shares his knowledge and experience, encourages those around him, and genuinely wants to see others succeed. His humility, integrity and willingness to lead by example have earned him the respect of his crew and the wider Fire and Rescue NSW family.

This appointment isn’t just recognition of the firefighter Jon has become—it’s recognition of the leader he has always been.

Congratulations, Jon. This promotion is thoroughly deserved, and we’re proud to have you leading Station 307 as our Deputy Captain.

Three stations. One mission. One very lucky lorikeet. 🦜🚒

When the call came in for a lorikeet in trouble, Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Stations 510, 306 and 307 came together to give Elvis every chance.

Working as one team, firefighters carefully rescued the colourful little bird, and we’re happy to report that Elvis is safe and doing well! 💚

It’s a great reminder that no matter the size of the rescue, every life matters. From major emergencies to helping our wildlife, we’re proud to be there when our community needs us.

A fantastic outcome made possible through teamwork, patience and a shared commitment to helping others.

❄️ Keeping warm this winter? Make sure you’re doing it safely. 🔥
As the temperatures drop, heaters become part of many homes—but they also need plenty of space to operate safely.
Remember the 1-metre rule: Keep at least 1 metre between your heater and anything that can catch fire, including:�• Curtains�• Bedding and blankets�• Lounges and furniture�• Throws�• Clothing and towels�• Drying racks
A few other simple tips:�🔥 Switch heaters off before you leave the room or go to bed.�🔥 Never use outdoor heaters indoors.�🔥 Never dry clothes or towels on or near a heater.�🔥 Test your smoke alarms regularly to make sure they’re working.
A little extra care can make a big difference in preventing a house fire this winter.

👨‍🚒 Meet Our Latest Recruit – Liam!

We’re excited to officially welcome Liam to the team at Station 307! Take a moment to get to know one of our newest firefighters.

📍 What’s your name and where are you from?
Hi, I’m Liam! I’m originally from Coffs Harbour and have been living in Grafton for nearly three years.

🚒 How long have you been with Fire and Rescue?
I’ve been with Fire and Rescue for just over three months, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!

❤️ What inspired you to become a firefighter?
I’ve always loved helping the community. After spending many years with the RFS, I wanted to continue learning, challenge myself, and further my career in Fire and Rescue.

🛠️ What’s your favourite piece of equipment?
Definitely the hydraulic rescue equipment. It’s incredible to see how it operates and how quickly it can cut through a car roof or door during a rescue.

💬 What advice would you give someone considering joining Fire and Rescue?
Be open-minded, take the chance, and enjoy every moment. It’s an incredibly rewarding career.

🏁 What do you enjoy outside of work?
Motorsport has always been a big part of my life. Growing up around it sparked my passion, and it’s something I’ve loved ever since.

🚒 June is Men’s Mental Health Month 🚒

As first responders, we spend a lot of our time checking in on others. We show up when people need help most, offer support during difficult times, and look out for our communities every day.

This month is a reminder to take a moment to check in on ourselves too.

Reach out to your mates. Have a conversation with your dad, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, colleague or fellow first responder. Sometimes a simple “R u ok ?” can make all the difference.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, and looking after yourself is not a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength.

At Station 307, we’re encouraging everyone to take the time to connect, check in, and support the men in their lives.

Because no one should have to carry the weight alone.

🚒 Road Safety Message 🚒

Lately, our crews at 307 have attended a number of motor vehicle accidents in our local area.

While we’re always ready to respond when needed, we’d much rather see everyone arrive safely at their destination.

A simple reminder to all road users:
🚗 Slow down and drive to the conditions.
📱 Put the phone away and avoid distractions.
🚦 Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle ahead.
😴 Never drive tired.
🍻 Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
🚸 Stay alert for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

Many crashes happen close to home and can occur in just a split second. Taking a little extra care behind the wheel could prevent a life-changing incident.

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe and reduce the need for emergency services to attend these preventable incidents.
