💙 Never take a step for granted.

Walking with a loved one, enjoying a morning stroll or simply moving through the day — these everyday moments can mean so much to our independence, wellbeing and quality of life.

This World Arthritis Day and World Osteoporosis Day, we're shining a light on two conditions that can affect how we move and live as we age.

Arthritis can cause joint pain, stiffness and reduced mobility, while osteoporosis weakens bones and increases the risk of fractures. Although they are different conditions, both highlight the importance of supporting our health as we grow older.

In aged care, promoting safe movement, supporting individual needs, encouraging healthy nutrition and recognising health concerns early can make a meaningful difference. 💙

If you are experiencing any pain, weakness or discomfort when walking or challenges with your general mobility, please speak to your GP.

Anyone can become a carer, at any time. For many people supporting an older loved one, caring can be a rewarding experience — but it can also bring challenges, exhaustion and moments when a little extra support makes all the difference.

This National Carers Week, let’s recognise the incredible contribution of carers in aged care and remember that caring for those who care is something we can all be part of.

Here are five simple ways to support a carer:

💬 Check in regularly – A simple “How are you going, really?” can open the door to a meaningful conversation.

☕ Offer a break – Give them time to rest, recharge or do something just for themselves.

💜 Acknowledge and appreciate – Recognise their efforts and remind them that what they do matters.

🤝 Initiate support – Instead of saying “Let me know if you need anything”, offer something specific, like preparing a meal, running an errand or helping organise support.

🌿 Encourage self-care – Remind them that their own health and wellbeing matter, too.

Research highlighted through the Carers Week campaign shows that access to support is associated with better wellbeing for carers.

This week, and every week, let's turn appreciation into action. A small act of kindness can make a big difference to someone who spends so much of their time caring for others.

💜 Who is a carer you can check in on today?

“I am alive, and I do everything I want to do.” 💙

At 95, Don Lockley is still walking, fundraising and encouraging Australian men to take prostate cancer seriously. 🙂

“I think men are their own worst enemy because they’re bulletproof and they don’t want to know about their health. 😕

“Go and get tested." 👍

For the seventh year in a row, Don is taking part in The Long Run, setting himself a 100km target to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer. 💪

“This year I started early, and at the moment I’ve walked 126kms in August and at the start of September, and I’ve got $1,740 raised so far. 😃

“I believe in what PCFA is all about, so I’m just trying to do my bit.” 🙂

A huge thank you to Don for sharing his story in today’s NT News. 👏

Today is Dollar Match Day for The Long Run: www.thelongrun.org.au 😀

Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited and Tyrepower will match donations dollar for dollar, up to $75,000. 🤩

Every dollar you donate will make twice the impact. 💙💙
