A great opportunity to connect with our community at AgQuip 🇦🇺

12/16 Hunter River Lancers are proud to be part of the event, meeting visitors from across the country and sharing what service in the Australian Army is all about.

From talking with members of the public about the many roles and opportunities available in the Army, to showcasing some of our equipment and capabilities, AGQUIP has been a fantastic chance to connect, answer questions and build a better understanding of what we do.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, shared a story or simply took the time to say G’day. It’s been great meeting you, and we will see you all next year!

Members of the 12/16 Hunter River Lancers were honoured to support Vietnam Veterans Day services at Muswellbrook, Tamworth and Caboolture, joining veterans, families, and the wider community in remembering those who served in the Vietnam War.

These services provide an important opportunity to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of all Vietnam veterans, and to remember those who did not return home.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make these commemorations possible and are proud to stand alongside our veterans and their families.

Over the weekend, members of B Squadron conducted Professional Military Education (PME), combining a challenging PT session with a presentation and discussion focused on our training adversary and how they might fight.

We were fortunate to have an outstanding presentation from the Australian Army Battle Lab , providing valuable insights, challenging our assumptions and encouraging our soldiers to think critically about the contemporary operating environment.

Professional military education is about more than understanding our own capabilities, it’s about understanding our adversary, challenging our assumptions and developing the ability to think, adapt and make sound decisions in complex environments.

A great opportunity for the team to learn, challenge themselves and continue sharpening the intellectual edge.

The 12/16 Hunter River Lancers continues to train for the unexpected. This weekend, the Regiment participated in QLD Fire Department UAS Exercise WEDGETAIL.

Our soldiers integrated with Queensland emergency services to rehearse the coordination and response required during complex incidents.

Alongside the Queensland Fire Department, Surf Life Saving Queensland, Queensland State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service Queensland, we supported UAS operations and developed a shared understanding of how different agencies can work together during an emergency.

Exercises like WEDGETAIL provide our soldiers with the opportunity to train alongside the organisations they may work with during a real emergency and, as demonstrated today, sometimes the training becomes the real thing…

The 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers were proud to support the Tamworth Running Festival, providing course marshals, a water point and a static display for competitors, families and spectators throughout the day.

With events ranging from the marathon and half marathon to the 10 km and 5 km fun runs, it was fantastic to see so many people from across the region out enjoying perfect running conditions and supporting one another.

As an Army Reserve unit, being part of our local community is just as important as maintaining our readiness. Opportunities like the Tamworth Running Festival allow our soldiers to give back, connect with the community and showcase the people, equipment and capabilities of the Regiment.

A big thank you to the organisers, volunteers and everyone who took part in making the day such a success. Congratulations to all the runners on their achievements—we were proud to play a small part in helping make the event happen.

Thanks for a great day out, Tamworth. We’ll see you around town!

Over the last few weeks, we have been building readiness, strengthening partnerships, and embracing the opportunity to explore Far North Queensland. Its incredible landscapes, rich culture and the warm hospitality of its communities.

It’s been a privilege to train in such a remarkable part of Australia.

Connecting with community in Mapoon.
As part of Exercise Austral Shield 26, soldiers from the 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers as part of the 9th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment Task Unit during a visit to the Mapoon community in Far North Queensland.

The Cavalry Squadron secured the landing zone for a CH-47 Chinook before facilitating the safe arrival of the Task Unit, enabling a valuable opportunity for community engagement with local residents. It was a fantastic day, and we’re grateful to the Mapoon community for their warm welcome, hospitality and the great barbecue.

Thank you, Mapoon. We look forward to seeing you again.

The Cavalry Squadron of the 12th/16th Hunter River Lancers, operating as part of Joint Task Force 629 is in the field delivering orders, conducting replenishment activities alongside 11 CSSB and developing the commander’s situational understanding in Exercise Austral Shield 26.

The professionalism and capability displayed by our light cavalry soldiers continue to demonstrate why the cavalry remains a trusted and responsive force within the Australian Army. Whether operating from a command post, conducting mounted patrols, sustaining combat teams or engaging with local communities, our soldiers consistently deliver.
