๐Ÿš’ Chaffey Dam Hazard Reduction Update ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Crews are this week taking advantage of short weather windows throughout the day to continue their efforts at Chaffey Dam, reducing grass fire fuels on the western foreshore.

Smoke will be visible in the area as works continue ahead of forecast rainfall over the weekend. We thank the community for their understanding while this important mitigation work is undertaken to help reduce bush fire risk.

๐Ÿš’ Tamworth Agricultural Careers Day ๐ŸŒพ

We had a fantastic time attending the Tamworth Agricultural Careers Day, alongside North Western Area Command Mitigation crews and our Aboriginal Programs Officer.

Our crews were proud to showcase the vital work we do in bush fire hazard reduction, as well as what itโ€™s like working for and volunteering with the NSW RFS. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities and highlight the important role we play in protecting our communities.
It was especially encouraging to see so many young, enthusiastic individuals stopping by, asking thoughtful and intelligent questions, and showing a genuine interest in future career pathways.

A big thank you to the organisers for putting together such a great eventโ€”and to everyone who came along for a chat! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’ Chaffey Dam Hazard Reduction Burn ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today, crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service, volunteer brigades, mitigation staff and WaterNSW are working together at Chaffey Dam to deliver a planned hazard reduction burn before the much needed rain arrives.

The current overcast conditions and high humidity have created ideal conditions for the safe treatment of highly cured grasslands, helping to reduce future fire risk and protect critical water catchment infrastructure and surrounding assets.
Smoke may be visible throughout the area while operations are underway. We thank the community for their understanding and support.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Hazard Reduction Burn โ€“ Chaffey Dam, Woolomin ๐Ÿ”ฅ
The NSW Rural Fire Service, in partnership with Water NSW, will be conducting a planned Hazard Reduction burn in the Chaffey Dam area near Woolomin.
Residents and visitors are advised that smoke and fire activity will be visible from the Chaffey Dam Reserve, Nundle Road and surrounding areas during operations. Smoke may also settle overnight in Woolomin, Bowling Alley Point and around Chaffey Dam depending on weather conditions.
These burns are conducted to help reduce fuel loads and assist in protecting critical infrastructure, surrounding communities and the environment.
Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions where smoke may affect visibility.
We appreciate the communityโ€™s understanding while this important risk reduction work is undertaken.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Hazard Reduction Burn Underway ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Volunteer firefighters from across the Tamworth area, supported by mitigation crews, are today undertaking a planned hazard reduction burn to help reduce bush fire risk and protect critical water catchment infrastructure, surrounding natural assets and nearby communities.
These important works also help create safer conditions for recreational activities and future access to the area by reducing fuel loads ahead of the fire season.
Smoke may be visible throughout the day and into the evening.

Thanks to the ongoing and sustained efforts of volunteer firefighters, local landowners, heavy plant operators and aviation support, the Barry Road fire at Hanging Rock has now been brought under control and is at contained status.

Over the past four days, the fire has burnt through more than 270 hectares of land.

Crews will continue to return to the area to extinguish any remaining hotspots and remove hazards to ensure the fire area is made safe.

We thank the community for their patience and support during this incident
