Before the next storm, start with a few simple jobs around your home. 1st September = Launch of the Storm Season.

Storm-ready households prepare before severe weather is on the way.
This weekend, choose a few actions you can get done:
✅ Spend 10 minutes clearing leaves and debris from your gutters downpipes and drains
✅ Check your yard or balcony and secure loose outdoor items
✅ Check for trees or branches that may need trimming
✅ Check your roof for signs of damage or leaks
✅ Take a few minutes to review your insurance policy
✅ Make a household emergency plan
✅ Put together or check your emergency kit
✅ Download the Hazards Near Me NSW app
You don't need to do everything at once. Choose a time, choose a task and start before the next storm.

Stay ahead of the storm. Prepare early. And in September green waste from storm prep can be taken to the tip for free across the Shoalhaven.

Volunteers have been all over NSW in the last week - Wellington Wombats, an exercise to develop field capacity; Goulburn Police Academy for a Trainers and Assessors workshop; Penrith for an Incident Management Forum to expand skills of Incident Controllers and to assist in the search in the Highlands in Nattai National Park. Thankyou for your time and commitment.

Wet weather in the forecast. We’ve had some amazing winter sunshine days but over the next week or so that is expected to change. Being prepared is the best way to minimise the impact of increased showers and a little wind. Time to clean gutters and drains, tie down trampolines and check garden sheds.

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.

If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
