Mid-term Mayoral Elections

At its Ordinary Meeting last night, Councillors elected the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga.

Councillor Dallas Tout was re-elected as Mayor and will lead Council through to the next NSW Local Government elections in September 2028.

Councillor Georgie Davies was re-elected as Deputy Mayor and will serve until the next election of Deputy Mayor in 12 months.

It's threatened Species Day!

Monday 7 September is National Threatened Species Day, where the spotlight on Australia's threatened species.

Wagga Wagga is home to 163 threatened species and five endangered ecological communities, including the Koala, Squirrel Gliders, the Grey-headed Flying Fox, and six microbat species.

Each one plays a valuable role in our local ecosystem.

From habitat loss and invasive species to the decline of hollow-bearing trees, our local wildlife faces many challenges.

Relove It diverts quality goods from landfill and extends the item's lifespan.

🎾Pro-level tennis returning to Wagga Wagga

The Wagga Wagga Tennis International returns to the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre this month as part of the World Tennis Series.

After the success of the 2025 event, the city will once again host the pro-women’s tennis event which draws emerging players from all over the world aiming to use the tournament as a stepping stone to progress to the main tour.

The Wagga Wagga Tennis International will be held from Sunday 27 September to Sunday 11 October 2026 and is free for spectators to attend.

Have you had your say yet on train timetables to and from Wagga Wagga?

There’s still time to fill out the survey being conducted by Independent Wagga Wagga MP Dr Joe McGirr to find out how timetables between here and Sydney and Melbourne can be improved.

You can head online to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DrJoeTrainSurvey or call into Dr McGirr's office at 64 Baylis St to fill out a hard copy of the survey.

Dr McGirr will take the feedback received to parliament to seek changes in line with community wishes.

Our Zoo & Aviary guinea pigs are set to get a new and improved royal residence.

The current Guinea Pig Castle is being dismantled as part of the ongoing project to upgrade the farmyard section at the zoo.

The castle and its furry occupants are a much-loved destination for regular visitors to the Zoo & Aviary.

However, the structure zoo staff to keep clean and maintain on a day-to-day basis, due to all its nooks and crannies.

It will be replaced by a 'bigger and better' castle in a new enclosure, to be built nearby

Its furry residents are being relocated to the roundhouse near the camel enclosure while the farmyard works are taking place.

Lock it in now!

Our last One Tree for Me giveaway is on this coming weekend

Be part of this special event at the Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens on Saturday 5 September from 10am to 2pm (or until all seedlings are claimed).

It will mark the end of our One Tree for Me campaign, which was established in 2021 with the aim of getting 65,000 seedlings planted in our local area by the end of the program in 2026.

We've already reached that milestone, with 65,467 already planted as a result of the campaign, but there's always room for more.

So come along on Saturday morning (you'll find the team next to the Rose Garden) and get your bag of native seedlings.
