Congratulations to the August 2026 Business of the Month; Whyalla Travel & Cruise

Turning travel dreams into memorable journeys

For many people, a great holiday begins long before they board a plane or set sail. It starts with an idea, a conversation and someone who knows how to turn that idea into a memorable journey. That’s where Whyalla Travel & Cruise comes in. WT&C have been servicing Whyalla for some 45 years with Bill Heron starting in 1992 and Vivienne Burgess complimenting the team from 2010. A note here; when visiting Bill or Vivienne take the time to ask about their adventures because good travel agents are also good story tellers and their experiences will help you make your own decisions.

Located on Forsyth Street, Whyalla, Travel & Cruise cater for all trips imaginable. They can arrange flights, accommodation, transfers, cruises, tours, travel insurance and countless other details. Whyalla Travel & Cruise takes the complexity out of the process, helping customers make informed decisions and providing support throughout the booking process. Not only do they provide for holiday travel; they also offer corporate services to businesses that haven’t got the time or the skillset to be arranging travel for personnel.

And while online booking has made it possible to arrange almost every aspect of a holiday with a few clicks, there is still something special about having an experienced travel professional on your side. And that is why their mantra is, ‘If you don’t have an agent, you have no one’…

For Whyalla residents, having a local travel specialist means customers can sit down face-to-face with someone, talk through their plans, ask questions and receive advice based on their particular circumstances. It is more than simply booking a flight or hotel. A travel professional can help bring together the many moving parts of a holiday, while providing reassurance that there is someone local to contact when questions arise.

Congratulations team Whyalla Travel & Cruise, well done and thank you for a part of the Whyalla community.

Remember, shop locally, shop Whyalla.

This week we welcome:
✨Whyalla Central Deli

A fantastic locally owned and operated business that is about much more than great food.

Now owned and operated by Katie Donaldson, together with her awesome team, the business has entered an exciting new chapter after Katie had taken over from previous local owner.

Katie has been a chef for many years, mostly working in Tasmania and has also competed in many cooking shows Australia wide.

With the business now celebrating around three and a half years, Katie and the team continue to build on its reputation for fresh food, friendly service and genuine support for the Whyalla community.

There’s plenty on offer, including:

- Freshly made cakes and sweets
- Platters for gatherings, meetings and events
- Hot food
- Catering for a range of occasions
- Outdoor seating
- Convenient parking
- Locally made smoked products
- H**p seeds, oils and capsules
- Dimattina Coffee and proudly the only supplier in Whyalla
- Inspection and compliance approved

Supporting other locals is also a big part of the business.

You’ll find beautiful handmade bags created by a local lady Janice, with money raised supporting Pink Spirits Breast Cancer.

Katie and the team are strong supporters of breast cancer fundraising and generously make cakes for fundraising stalls, helping community groups raise much needed funds.

Their community support doesn’t stop there. They also support local football and provide space for donation tins supporting causes including Pink Spirits, Mission Australia homelessness services, the RSL and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

This commitment to business and community was recognised when the business was named New Business of the Year Winner in 2024 – a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the hard work behind the scenes.

Businesses like this are what local really means employing local people, supporting local organisations, stocking locally made products, getting behind sporting clubs and giving back to causes that matter.

Congratulations to Katie Donaldson and her team.

Whyalla Business & Tourism is proud to have businesses like yours among our members.

Next time you’re looking for a coffee, something sweet, fresh hot food, a platter or catering, make sure you support local and call in to see Katie and the team.

This week we welcome:
✨The Eyre Boardroom

A Whyalla based business coaching and growth program helping regional business owners build stronger, more profitable businesses.

Founded by local business coach Jason Ryan, The Eyre Boardroom works with business owners across Whyalla and the Eyre Peninsula to identify what is holding their business back, where the biggest opportunities sit, and what they should actually be focusing on next.

Because running a business can get busy very quickly.

Sales. Staff. Customers. Marketing. Cash flow. Systems. Technology.

There is always something demanding your attention. The challenge is knowing which things will genuinely move the business forward.

On Wednesday 23 September, The Eyre Boardroom is partnering with Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) to deliver the 5 Drivers Workshop.

The workshop will help business owners step back from the day to day, and work through five key areas that drive business performance.

The goal is simple:
Find the areas in your business that deserve your attention most!

Rather than trying to improve everything at once, business owners will leave with a clearer understanding of where the opportunities are, and what they should focus on next.

Date: Wednesday 23 September
Time: To be advised
Workshop: 5 Drivers Workshop
Presented by: The Eyre Boardroom in conjunction with RDAEP

Follow for more details to be released soon.

Helping Regional Businesses Compete in a Changing World

The way customers find businesses is changing quickly.

Being good at what you do is important, but people also need to be able to find you.

That means showing up when someone searches Google for the service you provide, and increasingly, when they ask AI tools for recommendations, businesses, services or information.

The Eyre Boardroom helps regional businesses strengthen their online presence so they are easier to find, understand and choose.

That can include improving Google visibility, strengthening websites and online business profiles, developing better content and building customised AI tools that help businesses operate smarter.

But technology is only part of it.

The real focus is helping business owners make better decisions, find opportunities they may be missing and build a business that performs better.

The Eyre Boardroom believes regional businesses shouldn't have to think small simply because they're regional.

The Eyre Boardroom key focus:

- Business Coaching
- Business Growth
- Google Visibility
- AI Tools
- Online Presence
- Whyalla & Eyre Peninsula

To find out more about The Eyre Boardroom or the upcoming 5 Drivers Workshop, keep an eye on the RDAEP or The Eyre Boardroom pages over the coming weeks.

Thank you to The Eyre Boardroom for its continued work supporting businesses throughout Whyalla and the wider Eyre Peninsula.

CRIME PREVENTION | SUPPORTING & PROTECTING WHYALLA BUSINESSES

A big thank you to SAPOL for joining Whyalla Business & Tourism for our recent members’ event focused on crime prevention, theft and vandalism in our local business community.

It was a valuable and very practical evening, giving our members the opportunity to hear directly from SAPOL, ask questions and better understand what business owners and staff can do to protect their premises, employees and customers.

The discussion covered some of the real issues businesses face, including theft, property damage, suspicious behaviour, reporting incidents, CCTV and evidence, and what steps can be taken to help prevent crime before it happens.

Most importantly, it created an open conversation between local businesses and SAPOL about the challenges being experienced across Whyalla and how we can work together to create a safer business community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed questions and shared their experiences. These are exactly the types of informative and practical events we want to continue providing for our members.

A special thank you to SAPOL for giving their time, knowledge and advice and for continuing to support businesses throughout Whyalla.

Whyalla Business & Tourism would like to also thank Draft & Drift bar for hosting this event.

Stronger businesses. Better connections. A safer Whyalla.

🚨 Know your rights, protect your business

Whyalla Business and Tourism is hosting an information evening with SAPOL to help local business owners, managers and staff better understand their rights when dealing with theft, shoplifting, vandalism and property damage.

Hear directly from police about practical steps you can take to protect your business, including how to report incidents, gather useful evidence, make the most of CCTV and understand what you and your staff can legally do when dealing with offenders.

There will also be time to ask SAPOL questions directly, so if there’s something you’ve experienced at work or something you’ve always wanted clarified, this is a great opportunity to get reliable information.

5:00pm – 7:30pm

Congratulations to Tonz a Toyz
Whyalla Business & Tourism’s July Business of the Month!

There’s a good chance you’ve driven past Tonz a Toyz on Norrie Avenue without realising just how much is packed inside.

And it’s definitely not just a toy shop for kids.

For the past 7½ years, Andrew Miller has been quietly building Tonz a Toyz into one of those unique local businesses that’s well worth walking through the door to discover.

Andrew moved to Whyalla from Alice Springs and has made Whyalla home. Anyone who knows him will know he’s a humble, kind bloke who genuinely enjoys helping people find what they’re looking for.

Inside Tonz a Toyz you’ll find something for almost every age.

Scooters, dolls, LEGO, toys and gifts sit alongside an impressive range of collectables and classic model cars. Some are limited production runs with only a small number made, making them highly sought after by collectors and, in some cases, pieces that can increase in value over time.

And if Andrew doesn’t have what you’re looking for?

Ask him. There’s a good chance he can order it in for you.

That’s one of the things we love about recognising local businesses through Business of the Month. Behind the shopfronts we pass every day are local people who have spent years building businesses, helping customers and contributing to Whyalla.

Andrew has been doing exactly that for more than seven years, without making a lot of noise about it.

So for June business of the month, we’d like to make a little noise for him.

Congratulations Andrew and Tonz a Toyz on being our Business of the Month.

If you haven’t been in for a while, drop in and have a look around. You might be surprised by what you find.

And if you know someone who collects classic cars, LEGO or loves finding something a little different, tag them or share this post with them.

Support local. Discover local. Shop Whyalla.

There will also be an opportunity to ask SAPOL questions directly, so if there is something you’ve experienced in your business or something you’ve always wanted clarified, this is a great opportunity to get the right information.
