๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿš“ It's National Science Week and hereโ€™s a science fact you might hear before you see it. Have you ever noticed how a police siren sounds higher as it approaches and lower once it passes?

That's the Doppler Effect. As an emergency vehicle moves towards you, the sound waves bunch closer together, increasing their frequency and making the siren sound higher in pitch. As it moves away, the waves spread further apart, decreasing their frequency and making the pitch sound lower.

Itโ€™s an interesting science fact, but itโ€™s also a road safety reminder that if you hear a siren, stay alert, check your surroundings and, when safe to do so, give emergency vehicles a clear path. Those few seconds can make all the difference ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿš’

We're sharing a powerful road safety message that highlights the devastating consequences of serious and fatal traffic crashes.

This video simulates the force of a car crash when travelling at 100km/h. While confronting, it serves as an important reminder that your decisions behind the wheel, can have life-changing consequences. This Queensland Road Safety Week, please slow down, be patient and get home safe after every journey.

Disclaimer: This footage was recorded using a camera installed inside the vehicle and depicts a staged demonstration. It was conducted in a controlled environment for educational and training purposes only.
