Coordination Meeting Between the DoAT, NCHM and BCAA

On 14 July 2026, a coordination meeting was held between the Department of Air Transport (DoAT) and the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM), with representatives from the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) also in attendance.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to support safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations. As the provider of Air Navigation Services, the Department of Air Transport works closely with NCHM, which is responsible for aviation meteorological services, to ensure the timely exchange of critical weather information essential for flight planning and air traffic management.

The presence of BCAA added valuable regulatory perspectives to the discussions, reinforcing a shared commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and operational excellence.

The Department of Air Transport (DoAT) and Norion Renewable Energy Ltd. (NREL) signed the Asset Ownership Transfer Agreement for the 1,505.880 kW Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic System with a 2,400 kWh Hybrid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Paro International Airport.

Valued at Nu. 88.733 million, the agreement officially transfers ownership of the airport's solar power facilities to DoAT.

This marks an important step toward a cleaner and more resilient future, as Paro International Airport's critical infrastructure will now be powered by renewable solar energy.

The transition strengthens the airport's energy security while reinforcing Bhutan's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Today, the Department of Air Transport bid a heartfelt farewell to Mr. Tashi Dukpa, Superintendent of Aviation Meteorology, as he concludes an extraordinary career dedicated to public service and the aviation sector.

Mr. Tashi Dukpa rendered an impressive 36 years, 9 months, and 14 days of dedicated service, beginning with his appointment on 1 September 1989 and serving with distinction until his retirement.

Throughout his remarkable journey, he exemplified professionalism, commitment, and reliability in the field of aviation. His contributions played a vital role in supporting safe and efficient air transport operations, while his guidance and experience inspired colleagues across generations.

As he embarks on a new chapter in life, the Department of Air Transport extends its sincere gratitude for his invaluable service and unwavering dedication to duty.

We wish Mr. Tashi Dukpa good health, happiness, and fulfillment in his retirement, along with many cherished moments with family and loved ones.
