Today, one dog from our Paro Zeus Dog Sanctuary fell ill and are currently receiving treatment at the Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital (DVH). We are pleased to share, however, that the overall health condition of the dogs in both our Thimphu and Paro sanctuaries remains highly encouraging. Approximately 90% of the dogs are in good health, while only around 10% are undergoing treatment and recovering well.

Compared to previous years, we have witnessed a remarkable improvement in the health and well-being of our dogs. We are happy to report that mortality rates have significantly declined, and cases of severe illness have become increasingly rare. Most of the dogs currently under treatment are rescued dogs that arrived with pre-existing health conditions.

These positive outcomes are the result of our continuous efforts to provide the dogs with proper care, timely medical attention, a clean and hygienic environment, and a balanced, nutritious diet. We firmly believe that these measures have played a crucial role in improving their overall health and quality of life.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the National Veterinary Hospital and the Paro Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital for their unwavering support and professional assistance. Their contributions have brought about a transformative improvement in the health and welfare of the dogs residing in both sanctuaries.

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that we will soon be introducing additional facilities and equipment to enhance the welfare of our dogs. We are also planning to upgrade and renovate several of our existing dog houses, ensuring that the dogs enjoy a safer, cleaner, and more comfortable living environment.

Our primary objective is to provide the dogs with a better quality of life, maintain the highest standards of hygiene, and ensure they continue to enjoy the freedom they deserve. Our vision is to transform our sanctuaries into a true haven for free-roaming and rescued dogs.

We remain fully committed to safeguarding the health and happiness of every dog under our care. Through dedicated round-the-clock operations, we strive to ensure that the dogs receive the best possible care, nutritious meals, and prompt medical attention whenever needed. The Zeus Dog Sanctuaries never sleep—we work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to protect, nurture, and improve the lives of our dogs.

To date, we have brought about significant positive change, saving hundreds of voiceless lives and providing a better quality of life for more than 870 dogs residing in our sanctuaries. However, these achievements are not the result of Zeus Dog Sanctuary's efforts alone.

This success is a collective accomplishment made possible through the generosity and compassion of our supporters, who have voluntarily come forward with both financial contributions and in-kind donations. Their unwavering support has played a pivotal role in transforming the lives of countless dogs under our care. Without their kindness and commitment, it would not have been possible to achieve such remarkable progress and far-reaching impact.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the National Veterinary Hospital National Veterinary Hospital and the Department of Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan for their continuous guidance, professional assistance, and moral support. Their partnership and encouragement have been instrumental in helping us improve the health, welfare, and overall well-being of the dogs in our sanctuaries.

Together, we have created meaningful and lasting change, giving hundreds of vulnerable and abandoned dogs a second chance at life, dignity, and happiness.

In addition, we actively support local communities by addressing dog-related concerns and promoting humane and sustainable dog population management. Through these efforts, we remain dedicated to contributing toward the realization of His Majesty’s vision for animal welfare, community harmony, and responsible coexistence between humans and animals.

Yesterday, we received a complaint from concerned members of the public regarding a pet dog that has been continuously kept tied on a veranda for several days. According to the information received, the dog has not been properly fed on time and has been left unattended for extended periods.

Furthermore, as there are many tenants and residential buildings nearby, the surrounding community has been greatly disturbed both day and night due to the dog crying loudly for long hours.

Firstly, such treatment is against animal welfare and animal rights. Secondly, it is also causing inconvenience and disturbance to the neighboring community.

If you are unable to provide proper care, attention, and a better life for your pets, you should reconsider adopting animals. Alternatively, you may seek assistance from animal welfare organizations and responsibly surrender the dog to those who can provide appropriate care and protection.

Till date, at the Paro Zeus Nakulu Dog Sanctuary, we have rescued 14 puppies and 4 adult dogs that had not been sterilized. Today, in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital, we successfully sterilized 6 puppies and 4 adult dogs. We now have 8 more puppies remaining to be sterilized.
Our primary mission is to humanely control the stray dog population in a manner that benefits both the communities of Paro and the welfare of the dogs themselves.
Tomorrow, we will continue our sterilization campaign with the remaining 8 puppies. Overall, today’s initiative was highly successful.
