Beneath it, a sub-article titled “Colin Rickards Winding Up B.H. Visit” recounts the departure of a London correspondent. Surrounding these are smaller reports, including “G.W.D.U Signs Agreement For B.E.C. Clerical Workers” and the unusual story of a “Hermaphrodite Bull-Cow At Slaughter-House.”

The lower half of the page features a portrait and article on Premier George Price on Southern Tour. Today, Benque Viejo Public Library proudly joined communities across Belize in commemorating Emancipation Day through a special arts and craft activity with our children.
As we celebrate the end of slavery and honor the strength, resilience and enduring legacy of our African ancestors, our young participants had the opportunity to learn about the importance of this historic day while expressing their creativity through art.
Happy Emancipation Day, Belize!
May we continue to honor the sacrifices of the past while working together toward a future of unity, justice, and opportunity for all.

Emancipation Day 2026 Honoring Freedom, Preserving Heritage

Today, Belize joins the wider Caribbean in commemorating Emancipation Day, a day that marks the abolition of slavery and the triumph of resilience, dignity, and freedom.

At the National Heritage Library, we reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of our ancestors, whose courage laid the foundation for the Belize we know today. Emancipation is not only a historical milestone, it is a living reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard justice, equality, and cultural identity.

Wow! We are almost coming to the end of our Children annual summer Program 2026, and today was another day of learning .We had the privilege to have Mrs. Gabrielli Perez from Western Gold BeeKeeping . On Behalf of the BNLSIS thank you very much for the wonderful presentation about BEES🐝🐝. It was very informative and engaging the children were very interactive and happy to learn how well the bees are organize in their colonies. Once again thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule and delivering a great presentation.👏👏👏🐝

On Behalf of the BNLSIS we would like to give thanks to Ms. Maria Gongora from Soliany Rentals, for making this day of summer program a memorable day . Taking time to teach the process of making cotton candy ,children had the opportunity to learn how to make their own cotton candy. They were amazed to see how simple ingredients transforms into a fluffy treat. This activity encourage children to learn and work together building a strong foundation.
