THEN vs. NOW: The Hypocrisy of John Briceño! 🚨

Remember when John Briceño stood before the microphones and claimed the Prime Minister wasn’t thinking things through? Remember when he promised he would make things better, not worse, for the Belizean people?

Take a look back at his own words: "Again, it’s another example where the Prime Minister did not think things out properly, and instead of making things better for us, he has been consistently making it worse for the Belizean people."

Fast forward to today. Under Prime Minister Briceño, the Belizean people are suffering more than ever. The empty promises have faded, the cost of living is sky-high, and his administration has proven to be exactly what he once criticized, clueless and consistently making life harder for everyday citizens.

He isn’t preaching his own words anymore because his actions tell a completely different story.

Belizeans deserve real leadership, consistency, and a government that actually delivers. It’s time for a change.

Government is balancing its budget on the backs of poor people.

The Belizean people are being hit TWICE.

First, the government collects high taxes on fuel.

Then when fuel prices raise the cost of transportation, food, goods, and services, everything in the stores becomes more expensive — and Belizeans pay MORE GST again at the cash register.

So the people suffer twice:
⛽ Higher fuel taxes at the pump
🛒 Higher taxes on more expensive goods in stores

That means every fuel increase becomes another way for government to collect more money while families struggle to survive.

When gas goes up:
➡️ Farmers pay more
➡️ Truckers pay more
➡️ Businesses pay more
➡️ Supermarkets charge more
➡️ Consumers suffer more

And through it all, government keeps collecting.

This is not relief.
This is pressure on hardworking Belizean families.

Belizeans deserve better. Enough is enough.

28/04/2026

We are adding our voice to the growing list of Belizeans deeply concerned about our government’s digital transformation projects, specifically the proposed National ID and biometric data systems. While the government holds consultations and promises modernization, the fundamental questions about our data security remain unanswered and, frankly, ignored.

We have spent time reviewing publicly accessible security assessments and threat intelligence data regarding our government’s current internet-facing domains. What we’ve found, and what is visible to anyone looking, are significant, unresolved security vulnerabilities.

If the government cannot secure the digital doors they have open today, how can they possibly secure the vault where they plan to store our most private, biometric data? We cannot allow them to move forward without accountability.

We need answers to three critical questions before our identities are digitized:

1. Fix the Basics: Why are government domains currently showing clear, exploitable vulnerabilities in open-source scans? If these basic security hygiene standards are not being met, how are we supposed to trust the integrity of a massive, centralized biometric system? Industry Standards is not enough for protection for government data. It is more than just industry standard.

2. Beyond 'Trust Us': We have heard the government’s promises of security, but where are the independent, third-party audit reports? Transparency is the only way to build public trust in such a massive digital shift. How can we trust them with more of our information when they have yet to prove they can protect the data they currently hold? How comes the current domains they hold are vulnerable and can be exposed to threat actors.

3. Align with National Concerns: The concerns raised by the Public Service Union regarding procurement and data governance are real and urgent. We need full transparency: Who is managing our data? Where is it stored? Who has access to it?

If public domains have these vulnerabilities, it means they are effectively welcoming bad actors. We have no idea if breaches have already occurred or if email and personal systems are already exposed.

We are not asking for national secrets; We are asking for the basic digital hygiene that every Belizean deserves. Our private identity is not a beta test. Grade F to the government for failing to fully protect all data.

The Internet Never Forgets: Receipts from 2017 vs. 2025 and into 2026🧾

They say that once you hold the seat of power, the view changes. But for the people of Belize, the reality on the ground especially when it comes to the cost of living and fuel prices feels exactly the same.

Watch this clip:
Rewind to 2017/2018: John Briceño, then Leader of the Opposition, was vocal about the burden of fuel taxes. He demanded relief for the people and promised a better way forward.

Fast forward to 2025: Now that he is in the Prime Minister's chair, the narrative has shifted. The urgency to lower those costs seems to have vanished.

It’s easy to criticize from the outside, but true leadership is about delivering on your promises once you actually have the power to make change. Was it just campaign rhetoric to get into office, or does the system simply change our leaders?

We were promised a different way of doing things. I’d love to hear your thoughts, have you felt the change we were promised, or are we still waiting for the relief we were told was possible?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fuel Price Increase Burdens All Belizeans: Government Must Act Now

From the Office of the Shadow Minister of Transport and Logistics
German Tillett

The recent fuel price increases announced by the Government of Belize are not just an issue for one sector, they are a direct blow to every Belizean. At a time when families are already struggling to make ends meet, this administration has once again chosen to increase the cost of living across the board.

Fuel is at the heart of our economy. When fuel prices rise, everything else follows - food, transportation, goods, and basic services. The impact is felt not only by bus operators, but by farmers, small businesses, workers, and families in every community.

Instead of implementing meaningful relief measures, such as subsidies or tax reductions, the government has allowed these increases to cascade onto the people. Bus fare hikes are just one symptom of a much larger problem, the complete lack of action to protect Belizeans from rising costs.

Transportation is not a luxury, it is a necessity. When bus fares rise, everything else becomes more expensive. Children struggle to get to school, workers struggle to get to their jobs, and small businesses feel the strain.

We in the Opposition made clear and reasonable calls for intervention. The BBA urged the government to support the transport sector in a way that would protect both operators and commuters, while also addressing the wider economic strain caused by fuel increases. Those calls were ignored.

The real question now is: what relief is being offered to the Belizean people?

Belizeans deserve more than silence and inaction. They deserve leadership that understands their daily struggles and takes decisive steps to ease the burden. That begins with addressing the rising cost of fuel and implementing policies that bring real, measurable relief to the people.

As Shadow Minister of Transport and Logistics, I strongly condemn this failure and call on the government to take immediate action to reduce the cost of fuel and protect all Belizeans from further economic hardship.

Belizeans deserve better.
