Tremendous leadership by the City of Calgary, this is something the City of Brandon - Local Government desperately needs.

A fire board would create a much more effective governance model, to ensure our fire department is meeting the needs of our community today, and well into the future!

Mayor Jeff Fawcett said in his state of the city address this year, that Brandon is on track to hit 80,000 residents in 14 years, a 45% increase in population. This would be a crucial step towards making sure we are prepared for this.

Congratulations to the City of Calgary, your city will be safer because of this decision and was so important it passed UNANIMOUSLY

One of Beausejour's own is doing something incredible and we want to make some noise about it.

Mady Kennedy is cycling across Canada to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. She recently passed through her hometown of Beausejour and we were proud to cheer her on. This cause hits close to home for us in more ways than one. Mady's brother is a former member of the BBFD, which makes her part of the fire family as far as we are concerned.

Cancer is not an abstract issue in the fire service. It is an occupational reality. Between 2007 and 2021, cancer accounted for 84.6 per cent of Canadian firefighter fatality claims. Firefighters carry a 9Mady cent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 per cent higher risk of dying from it compared to the general public. Research into cancer prevention and treatment is not just important to us. It is personal.

Mady is riding for all of it and she deserves every bit of support we can give her.
