Green Line Calgary

Green Line Calgary Calgaryโ€™s largest infrastructure project. Construction underway | Opening 2031. The Green Line project is moving ahead!

As of March 18, 2025, funding commitments from the City of Calgary, Province of Alberta, and Government of Canada have been confirmed. The City of Calgary is responsible for delivering the project, with construction of the SE Segment beginning in 2025. At the same time, the City of Calgary will begin work immediately on a Functional Plan for the Downtown Segment, based on the Government of Alberta

's plan and alignment, using 10 Avenue and 2 Street SW (view their plan here). The Functional Plan will advance design, validate the Provinceโ€™s cost estimates, understand potential impacts to existing infrastructure and ensure the project is broadly supported by Calgarians prior to starting construction.

Next time you're driving Blackfoot Trail S.E., look up. The future Green Line LRT bridge just reached a major construction milestone!

Crews from EllisDon Corporation have finished pouring the concrete decks for the Blackfoot Trail LRT Bridge, completing both the main bridge deck that Green Line trains will run on and the multi-use pathway deck for pedestrians and cyclists.

This bridge will carry our trains over a busy Calgary roadway, keeping traffic flowing below while trains cross safely above. It also adds a new connection to the city's pathway network for anyone walking or biking through the area.

Which project milestone would you like to see next? Tell us below๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ‘‰ Take a look back at some of our favourite moments from this summer's Green Line LRT events!

From big festivals to neighbourhood pop-ups, we spent the season connecting with thousands of Calgarians all along the Green Line LRT alignment in the southeast. From Shepard at our Canadian Tire pop-ups, to Quarry Park at the Re*****on YMCA Breakfast, to Ramsay/Inglewood at Inglewood Sunfest, Crossroads Market Ltd. and the Inglewood Night Market.

We met people of all ages and backgrounds and had the opportunity to connect directly with Calgarians about the SE Project, where it will go, what's being built, and what construction will look like as work continues across the alignment.

What made these conversations especially meaningful was the chance to hear what youโ€™re curious about and to learn how the project relates to your day-to-day life. Every conversation was a little different. Some wanted to know how the Green Line could shape their future commute, while others had questions about construction in their community, or how stations and accessibility features are being designed. Being there in person gave us the chance to have conversations that were personal, relevant, and specific to each individual.

Most importantly, we heard directly from those who are excited to start riding the Green Line in 2031. What we heard this summer is already helping shape how we share information, answer your questions, and keep communities informed as the project moves forward.

A huge thank you to the local businesses, festivals, partners, and residents who welcomed us into their communities. We appreciate you!

If you've driven past 78 Avenue S.E. in Ogden recently, you probably noticed that things look a little different.

That's because our partner Graham Construction & Engineering Inc. has installed seven girders for the future Green Line LRT bridge. These massive structural beams form a critical part of the bridge structure, and will carry the weight of our trains as they travel across the route.

Each was built off-site, then lifted into placeโ€”one of the few construction milestones you could have actually watched happen from your car window.

Once the bridge is complete, it will allow trains and traffic to move independently instead of competing for the same road space. This project is part of the broader effort to improve access through this corridor, which also includes the new roundabout connecting 78 Avenue and Ogden Dale Road S.E. that was completed last year (also by Graham!).

Next up: bridge deck construction, the final piece before the bridge takes its finished shape.

Did you see it on your drive? DM us your photos, we'd love to see them!

See whatโ€™s taking shape along the future Green Line LRT.

Construction is underway across the SE Project, with crews working at several key locations in southeast Calgary.

Right now, work is progressing on two new LRT bridges: one over Blackfoot Trail near Crossroads Market and another at 78 Avenue S.E. in Ogden. Crews are also building an elevated guideway over 114 Avenue and Barlow Trail S.E., along with the Maintenance and Storage Facility that will support future Green Line operations.

Follow along through the carousel to see where construction is happening and what crews are building right now.

๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ—๏ธ A look back at a major milestone on the Blackfoot Trail LRT Bridge.

At the end of May, EllisDon Corporation crews completed an overnight girder installation, carefully lifting and placing the structural beams that will support future Green Line trains crossing Blackfoot Trail.

This video brings together time-lapse, drone, and ground-level footage from the operation, offering a unique look at the scale and coordination required to complete the work.

Construction has continued to advance since then, but this remains one of the project's most memorable milestones to date and a great opportunity to see how the future Green Line LRT is taking shape.

What was once a grassy field is now taking shape as the future home of the Green Line LRT trains.

Today, we're starting to see the first signs of the future Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) taking shape in southeast Calgary near 130 Ave S.E. and Deerfoot Trail.

PCL Construction crews are busy moving dirt and preparing the facilityโ€™s foundations.

Come 2031, every Green Line train will pass through the MSF before heading out across Calgary. It's where the future fleet will be stored, cleaned, maintained and prepared for service โ€” making it a critical piece of the Green Line LRT โ€“ SE Project.

Take a look at today's drone photos and compare them with renderings to see how far we've come already and what's still to come.
