We’re deeply saddened by the tragedy at CFB Wainwright.

Our sincere condolences go to the families, friends and colleagues of the Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured and their loved ones. Our hearts go out to the entire Wainwright community and everyone impacted by this tragedy.

Thank you to the first responders, emergency personnel and healthcare workers who have been there to help.

High winds are expected across many parts of Alberta today.

Our teams are monitoring conditions, but severe weather can sometimes lead to power outages. If you see a downed or damaged power line, stay at least 10 metres away and call 911 immediately.

Stay at least 10 metres away. Do not touch the line or the tower. Voltage can still be transmitted through the ground. If you feel a tingling sensation, immediately put your feet together and shuffle away from the area.

Alberta’s peak wildfire season runs from March 1 - Oct 31, but fires may occur anytime throughout the year.

Through our Wildfire Mitigation Plan, we continue to monitor fire weather conditions year-round, while working to reduce the likelihood of our transmission system contributing to the ignition of a fire.

High winds continue to cause outages across parts of our service area. We’ve brought in additional crews from other areas to support restoration efforts and our teams are working safely to assess damage, make repairs and get power back on as quickly as conditions allow.

If you’re without power, please check our outage map for the latest estimated restoration time for your area. If your outage is expected to continue overnight, we’ll also contact you directly by phone with an update. Outage map: https://service.fortisalberta.com

Update on the power outage impacting the Lac La Biche and Athabasca area.

Crews continue to complete repairs and we anticipate restoring power to customers affected by the transmission outage around 18:00 tonight.
