June is National Indigenous History Month AND Pride Month!

At Enviros, we are committed to learning, reflecting, educating, and celebrating each other. We recognize the importance of creating environments where everyone feels respected, valued, and included. Through culture, ceremony, community partnerships, and inclusive practices, we support children, youth, families, and teams in strengthening connections to culture, community, and identity. We continue our journey of fostering belonging and celebrating people for who they are.

This beautiful artwork, Pride Dancers, was created by Mi'gmaq two-spirit artist Griffin Germain. The piece celebrates identity, culture, community, and the strength found in embracing who we are.

On June 5, we invite you to join Sacred Steps at the The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, to walk in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Men and Boys.

June 6 (the following day) is Blue Jean Jacket Awareness Day, an annual grassroots movement dedicated to honouring and raising awareness for Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys (MMIMB). Started in Edmonton in 2023, the day encourages people to wear denim to bring visibility to the ongoing loss and violence affecting Indigenous men and boys.

It is a time to honour lives lost, stand alongside families and communities, and continue calling for awareness, justice, and action.

Enviros' Spring Agency Day is a dedicated time for our teams to focus on connection, relaxation, and self care. This year, teams participated in a variety of activities including wonton making, painting, planting seeds of growth, medicine teachings, learning how to make cotton candy, yoga, and much more.

Agency Day is also an opportunity to share our talents and learn from one another. Most of the activities were facilitated by our own team members, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who shared their time, skills, and knowledge to make the day so meaningful.

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB). It is a day to stand together in support of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and communities, while recognizing the ongoing need to challenge discrimination and stigma.

At Enviros, the Diversity Committee and teams throughout the organization continue to do meaningful work to ensure we are creating safe and brave spaces for both our teams and the individuals we serve. Through ongoing learning, advocacy, and inclusion, Enviros remains committed to fostering environments where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered to be their authentic selves.

On May 14, we recognize Children and Youth in Care Day. This is an important opportunity to celebrate the strength, resilience, and voices of children and youth in and from care.

This year’s theme, Rising in Strength and Story, acknowledges that children and youth in care are not defined by the systems they must navigate. Instead, they are defined by their unique strengths, experiences, achievements, and perspectives.

At Enviros, one of our 9 Principles is Voice and Choice. Children and youth are encouraged to share their stories, advocate for themselves, and make meaningful choices about their lives. Another guiding principle, Individualized, reminds us that every child and youth deserves support that recognizes their unique journey, needs, and strengths.

Today, we honour the courage, growth, and potential of children and youth we are serving, and we remain committed to walking alongside them as they rise in strength and story.
