Arts Carleton Place officially took flight in the fall of 2005 and continues to recognize, celebrate and promote the unique artistic activity in the vicinity. With an eye to "empowering artists and area residents through the arts" this busy group promises to raise awareness of the arts, develop partnerships within the community and identify and develop the area's artistic capacity to its full potential.

Nearly 6 months ago ACP member Colleen Gray began creating unique circular art on synthetic paper. The work was inspired by her passion for our unique planet, and by the Artemis II mission to map the dark side of the moon. This new body of work gives viewers the perspective of being above the planet and seeing the Earth from space.

Colleen conceived of an idea to build a rotating frame that would allow the work to be turned 360 degrees, thereby allowing a person to 'change their world view'. After an exhaustive amount of research and planning the design was ready for construction.

The collection, called 'The Great Return', was revealed this spring at Arts Carleton Place's Fine Art Exhibition selling five pieces before noon! Colleen is now working on new pieces to add to the collection and will be showcasing them this summer at Gallery Gray, located at 1127 Perth Rd. in Gillies Corners inside the Personal Touch Country Gifts store, and also at the Art Hub Gallery in Carleton Place.
